The most likely origin of this part of the Bond contract came about because of the film The Cannonball Run (1981). Roger Moore wore a tuxedo, drove an Aston Martin (including a scene with the ejector seat firing) and totally poked fun at his Bond image. First, check out The Black Tie Guide for a comprehensive look at what you should be looking for when it comes to a tuxedo. The good thing is that if you follow the rules, everyone should look relatively similar and therefor it wont really matter as to the pedigree of your maker as long as you nail the details and fit. FWIW, I and I assume most other menswear enthusiasts would think higher of someone in a Mens Wearhouse tux that fits well and nails all the particular dress code details than someone in a Brioni notch lapel two button tux for the cliff notes of what you should be looking for: a black or midnight blue (not navy) tux, one button (covered), peak or shawl lapels with silk or grosgrain facings, jetted pockets, two or no vents, self tie bow tie, cummerbund or matching vest (FYI - bow tie should match the facing of your jacket, should match your cummerbund) , white turn down collar shirt with marcella or pleated front, shirt studs, cufflinks, suspenders (no belt), high polished black cap toe/whole cut oxfords/patent leather oxfords/opera pumps/velvet slippers. I agree with u/NYGuy617 the devil is in the details, don't overlook the accessory piece! some recommendations that are pretty timeless: Charles Tyrwhitt Shawl or Peak (super affordable if it fits you, and their British lineage makes sure they nail all the details) Suit Supply Washington ($799 tux) or Lazio Peak or Double Breasted ($799 package deal - need to add cummberbund for single breasted, can omit for double breasted). Honestly, if you know you like Suit Supply and the fit works well on you, this would be a great mid-range choice with quality fabrics and construction that would allow you to spend some money on accessories. If you really wanted to stand out you could get the shawl, double breasted peak or double breasted shawl Kent Wang MTM (what I did for my wedding - tend to run about $800-1000) Hemrajani Bros MTM visit NYC in September (a top notch semi-bespoke at a bit above your price range at approx $1200, but it is more comparable to a $3-5K tux, see Kirby Allisons most recent videos with teh Hemrajani Bros for a more in depth description) This particular Brooks Brothers Peak or Shawl tuxedo ( will need to tuck in flap pockets...be wary of the other ones with notches lapels or single vents) - $1200, at this price if you have the time i would do Hemrajani Bros for the same ball park price) I wish had more opportunities to bust out the black tie rig....
