Sadly, there are a lot of judgmental posts in here. First off, one of them is noticeably autistic and is dealing with delayed development issues. He is not yet able to live on his own. When he is ready, he may choose to do so, and we will do everything in our power to make it happen. Second, like in most of the rest of the world, multiple generations living together can be a choice made willingly by adults. It is just like having a roommate, except that you already know what you're getting into. It allows adults to share expenses and enjoy a better standard of living, ongoing companionship, and so forth. In today's economy, it's often a smart choice. Constantly suggesting that it's some sort of failure on the part of the parents or means that the (adult) kids are just slackers isn't helpful, accurate, or meaningful. Stop being so judgemental when you don't know the whole story. /edit - and thank you for the other posts - some have been quite helpful. More on reddit.com

I would not recommend TUFFING to adults. The 100kg maximum weight is an evenly distributed weight/force; when entering the top bunk and resting with e.g. your knee on one specific point you may exceed that force limit. The STORA bunk bed doesn't mention a maximum. It looks sturdier to me (personal opinion) and I have a chunky colleague who uses it on daily basis. More on reddit.com

I have two grown kids (19 and 21) living at home. We don't have a lot of space, and they have to share a room. The bunk bed that they had growing up just died, and we need to replace it.
The problem I'm having is that every frame I can find is either horribly cheap junk (every site has the same four or five cheap frames) for $200, or high-end $3,000 frames.
One is ~175lbs, the other around 200. The only real limitations are that the ladder can't be on the right side (when facing the bunk.) It needs to be on the left side or on the end, and it has to fit their existing mattresses (both normal twin mattresses.)

Ikea bunkbeds and loft beds are built for adults. The ladders are interchangeable and are built out of metal which lasts much longer than their easy to bust wood drawers. To increase longevity, put it in you calendar to retighten the bolts every 6 months to a year. I had one that was in great shape after years of nightly use before I no longer needed it.

Hello I was just wondering if the tuffing bunk bed was safe for adults. Since im considering getting it, and they say 100 kilos is the maximum per bed. I am around 80kg and will be on the top bunk. The matress plus pillows and a blanket may weigh around 7 to 8 kilos. The website and a few video reviews have deemed it safe. However, I just wanted to ask for an opinion.
Also, for people who don't think it's safe. Could I ask for an alternative, since a pull out bed wouldn't work in this space and a roll away mattress won't either.
