I've seen a few older posts here from people asking if Ikea sells Twin XL Beds. If you search Ikea, you won't find any. However, a "Split King" is just two Twin XL beds pushed together. Now, take a look at this: ESPEVÄR Slatted Mattress Base with Legs
It's two Twin XL sized bases, each with its own set of legs. So, Ikea does (kind of) have Twin XL bed frames. If you've got a friend asking you for a ikea twin xl bed frame AND they want two, (or maybe you each want one?) then get the ESPEVÄR Slatted Mattress Base with Legs and there you go: two Twin XL bed frames from Ikea for $155 each ($310 USD)
Now, it's still true that Ikea does NOT sell a mattress in the Twin XL size. If someone comes across a King Mattress that is two Twin XL mattresses inside a big mattress cover, post it here! Otherwise, you're best off getting a Twin XL mattress from Sleep Country or similar.

Can I use Ikea King bed to put two twin xl BOX frames within?
I think you could actually just use the bed as is; but just add 2 twin XL mattresses on top as opposed to a King size. The bed (headboard, footboard and side rails) should be sufficiently stable to stand up on its own without the center rods; BUT to limit movement of the bed I would attach the headboard to the wall with a cleat. I think that would add the stability needed to actually be able to lean against the headboard, move around on the bed, etc. You would need to lash those bed frames together to keep them from shifting apart and putting pressure on the MALM side rails. You still might need to bind the mattresses. The main thing to check first before going any further would be to get the measurements of the inside of the bed. The outside measurements of the MALM are 83 1/8” by 82 1/4”; but as you can see in the instructions, the side rails of the bed are somewhat inset and there is a small lip on both side rails where the mattress slats sit. So, the inside measurements (especially in the width) are going to be several inches less than the outside. More on reddit.com

This is how hotels do a king bed. They take two singles and push them together and then use a mattress strap and a king pillow top to cover the seam in the single mattress. Doing two king singles would give you a super king. More on reddit.com

I have been in search of sleek twin xl bed frames that have a headboard but all beds I found (which are not a lot anyway) were either expensive or too tall on the headboard. An idea that came to mind is if I could take a King sized empty bed frame from Ikea and NOT install the railing for slats. All this is to minimize motion transfer but at the same time get a shared headboard. Anyone has done this before? Do you think I can get away with not installing and still have a King sized "shell" per say and put in my twin XL box frame next to each other and put the mattresses on top and get a shared headboard. Thank you.

I did something similar. I have two Ikea twin bed bases which They didn't seem to sell anymore. They are only 7" tall with 7" legs on each foundation. Similar to this foundation https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/lyngoer-foundation-40488254/ I bought a non Ikea king upholsterer bedframe, didn't install the slates and removed the slate rail, set the IKEA foundations with legs inside the new bed surround (headboard, side rails, and footboard rail) then put the mattress ontop. Feels much more secure then the cheap slats that came with the bed. The upholstered bed is basically just for looks.
