People also ask

Are all USB-C cables fast charging?

No, Some basic USB-C cables are tailored for low-power devices such as Bluetooth speakers and portable lights. These cables may charge fast charging (high-power) products such as mobile phones and laptops but at a basic charge level. Look for Power Delivery (USB-PD) cables to take full advantage of fast charging (high power) capabilities and make sure the power source is also capable.

What is a USB-C cable?

USB-C, also known as Type-C, is the latest connector developed by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), a group of industry leaders within the consumer electronics community, such as Apple, Intel, Dell, and Belkin. As many of the world's most recognized manufacturers are supporting this technology, it has been widely adopted. USB-C will gradually replace previous USB types, including USB-A, USB-B and USB Mini-B. Plus, as future devices are equipped with the new USB-C port, which is smaller than its predecessors, it's likely these devices will also be thinner and lighter than ever before.

What type of USB C cable allows fast charging?
It is indeed any spec-compliant USB-C cable, if with "fast charging" you mean "up to 60W". More on reddit.com

For USB-C cables what brands should I trust?
Honestly you cannot really trust any of them. If they say 60W, they might work for 20v 3a charging, but might only do 480Mbps data transfer. They might say 240W, and also do 10Gbps data transfer, and have an eMarker chip so they can do 240W. They might only do charging and have no eMarker chip so 20v at 3a is the best you'll ever get, and no data transfer at all. So, when you ask about trust, you should tell us a bit more: Do you care about charging speeds above 60W (20v @ 3a)? Do you care about data transfer at all? USB4? USB3.2? USB2.0? The challenge with USB-C is that there is NO REQUIREMENT for any USB-C cable to meet any standards, UNLESS you are a USB-IF member using one of their Logos. However, non-USB-IF members CAN and MAY and DO make excellent cables. I do not know what the penalty is against non-members using the USB-IF Logos, nor how they would enforce it, nor how USB-IF would enforce a member who makes a cable that is not compliant with the Logos shipped on the packaging or web listing. I picked up a Kolibar cable from Amazon (no affiliate links) and it has an e-Marker chip and does support 100w (20v @ 5a) charging, but does NOT support USB 3.2 Gen2, but the e-Marker chip claims it does. Another cable from UNILEEK (2 pack 6.6ft $11.99) did NOT have an e-Marker chip, so 60W max charging, and I didn't test data transfer. Shockingly a cable from LEIRUI (5ft $18.99) did everything it claimed -- eMarker chip, support for up to 240W of power, and USB3.1 Gen 2 data speeds. Finally a cable from Getrish ($6.99) that did have the e-Marker chip, but I didn't test data transfer. MOST PEOPLE WILL NOT NEED THE BEST USB-C CABLE!!! I need a charging cable for my mobile phone. I don't care about data transfer. Buy literally any USB-C cable. The most generic will do 60W, more than your phone can support. Spend as little as possible while making sure it gets enough generally decent reviews. Pay close attention to any reviews that show a USB Tester in their photos, because they usually know what they are doing. I need to charge my laptop, and sometimes move data to/from my computer. Depends on the laptop. If you need more than 60W, look for 100W or e-Marker USB-C cables. There are VERY FEW laptops that charge via USB-C and can even accept more than 100W. Most cables with an e-Marker chip will likely do USB 2.0 speeds of 480Mbps (60 megabytes per second). Still should be pretty inexpensive, USD$5-10 per cable depending on length. I need to power a small desktop computer at 240W AND data transfer of 10-40Gbps. Get a USB-IF certified cable, or read the reviews to see if people have verified that the cable does what it says. 240W means e-Marker Chip, 48V @ 5a, plus USB4 support (40Gbps) or USB 3.2 (10Gbps). These will be more expensive. Apple's amazingly-built version is USD$129. They will be between USD$15-$30 typically. More on reddit.com

What usb c cable works with the 25 watt charger that's comes with the note 10+
Don't do it! Cable must be e-marked. Here is an excerpt from an android central article https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.androidcentral.com/editors-desk-charging-arm-and-leg-and-note-10%3famp Turns out that in addition to needing a PPS-capable wall adapter, you also need an e-marked USB-C cable. Again, without getting too technical, that's a cable that's certified to transfer wattage up to 100W and speeds up to 10Gbps as based on the latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard. The problem is that you can't tell whether a cable is e-marked just by looking at it. While there's a tiny chip on the inside of the cable near the plug, you probably don't want to have to take apart your cable to check. Macbook pro Apple cables are e-marked More on reddit.com

24-pin reversible-plug serial digital connector system designed to replace all other USB connectors by carrying all USB data protocols (and some others) and power levels (in either direction, up to 240 W)

USB‑C, or USB Type‑C, is a 24-pin reversible connector (not a protocol) that supersedes all previous USB connectors, which were designated legacy in 2014. This connector also supersedes Mini DisplayPort and Lightning … Wikipedia

USB-C - Wikipedia
2 days ago - The designation C distinguishes it from the various USB connectors it replaced, all termed either Type‑A or Type‑B. Whereas earlier USB cables had a host end A and a peripheral device end B, a USB‑C cable connects either way; and for interoperation with older equipment, there are cables with a Type‑C plug at one end and either a Type‑A (host) or a Type‑B (peripheral device) plug at the other.

A USB-C adapter allows a USB-C cable to connect to a different standard such as the USB-A port on an external hard drive. USB-C hubs are connected to the USB-C port on a computer, and then offer a variety of ports for peripherals to connect to—typically multiple USB-A, USB-C and HDMI.

r/UsbCHardware on Reddit: For USB-C cables what brands should I trust?
November 7, 2023 -

Hello I wonder now how to get the USB-C cable that I am entitled to expect. I can’t trust Amazon, since sellers from the marketplace and brands lie about the standards and speeds. So, how do I proceed to get what I paid for? What brands should I trust?

You can trust USB-IF members and their certified products https://www.usb.org/members Some companies I recognize in this list are: Best Buy Cable Matters Club 3D Startech.com There are others like Ugreen that re-brand cables from manufacturers you won't recognize in that members list. These are harder to track down. Edit: Ugreen doesn't seem to actually sell any USB-IF certified cables
