What is the oldest candy?
What is the top 10 favorite candy?
What is the sweetest candy?
Candy is a universal pleasure in all forms of human culture, whether it be chocolate, pure sugar, or something in between. Throughout all of history, people have been chewing on the sweet stuff and innovating all sorts of confections. So I must ask, what kind of candy do the people in your world consume? Anything goes, as long as it's actually candy and not an actual full-fledged dessert. I know the line is blurry, so just keep in mind that candy is usually portable and has a higher sugar content.
Tell me the taste, name, ingredients, history, and significance of your confection. Other details you can include are side effects, cultural impact, smell, feel, and even recipes involving the product.
BLUE MARBLE
XANTHAN CHEWING GUM
-
Chewing gum made mostly of byproducts from a genetically modified version of the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris. Its flavor is nebulous, with multiple people having completely different experiences. The only known constant is that it tastes "artificial" with a "bitter, earthy aftertaste, similar to tea". It was created by Sugar-Coated INC as part of a contest to discover the exact flavor and ingredients, which is still going to this day. It can be easily mass-produced from clusters of Xanthomonas, making it very profitable. The flavor is so iconic, that Xanthan Chewing Gum has seen soft drinks, ice cream, and even vapes based on it.
RETROGALE BARS
-
Chocolate bars based on retro ice cream flavors. Made as a partnership between Sugar-Coated INC and Snowstorm Creameries to invoke nostalgia. Tiger Tail is an orange-flavored bar with a black licorice swirl, with 10% of every purchase going towards the preservation of endangered species of tigers. Moose Tracks is fairly standard, with swirls of peanut butter and fudge encased in dark chocolate. Rum Raisin features a rum-flavored base with candied raisins, and has actual alcohol in it. The release of Retrogale was so popular, that several petitions were made to add these flavors to the official Snowstorm Creameries lineup.
