March 29, 2021 - Some people see cars as giant toys, and they sure treat those cars like toys. Whether it’s jumping a rusty Bronco off a dirt mound or drifting a Miata at a track, they like doing fun and crazy things with their cars. They might also like cars with ridiculous acceleration or amazing cornering grip.

What truly defines a car enthusiast?
"Do you love cars?" If yes --> enthusiast If no --> not enthusiast Simple. There are varying levels of elitism ranging from "you must do all of your own work" to "you can't drive X vehicle and be an enthusiast" or whatever nonsense flavor of the month people bitch about, but it all boils down to people who love cars. As a young car enthusiast, where do i even start?

Find car clubs, any of them. Different car cultures out there, so mingling in a few of them might help find your niche, be it a type of driving (off reading, cruising, drag strip...), a specific make (Chevrolet), a specific model (Camaro, Mustang, WRX), etc.

Don't be pressured to get the "cool" car as a ticket into a particular club or culture. There are plenty of people that love their so-called boring cars with all their heart. There's nothing wrong with slow or average or plain, as long as you love your car and all things associated.

Do you have a car? A good starting point may be clubs or groups dedicated to the make or model.

Purist - the oem knows best kinda people.  They are proud of numbers matching, correct paint colors for parts, oem materials like window stickers and build sheets, down to the type of marking used in the factory for torque checks when you get into like concours grade stuff Eurotrash and wrx get grouped the same to me.  Think slammed VWs on rotiforms.  Vape clouds are a way of locating them at cars n coffee.  They try to be different by doing the exact same mods as everyone else in the group does. Ricers - they do foolish things to cars because they are into cars but also have to be able to get to work in the morning so they gravitate toward cars like civics because no matter how hard you try to break it, it will still get you to the 9-5 in the morning. Eurosnobs - different from eurotrash in that they like hilariously expensive mods you cant even tell are mods.  A lil touch of carbon here and there, they are the only ones who know it's a limited edition lazante diffuser that cost 11k.  Any mod more than oem+ will get you removed from the group. Muscle car guys - live for the v8 sound and power old and new.  Enjoy red light racing and smokey burnouts because the big boats arent too great at stopping and turning.  But they are the most entertaining coming and going from the car show.  Just watch from a safe distance, preferably from behind a solid object The hacks - proud of the jalopy they pieced together from 4 non running vehicles.  They have skill and creativity and want to show it off in a unique way.  They do more with what they have than any other group and you should always have one in your group as they can get your broken car home with a shoelace, some bubblegum and determination. Offroaders - wear pinstriping and smashed skids as a badge of honor.  They dont wash their vehicles.  It's a tool to them, one they proudly use in extreme ways.  Find these sitting in the median on top of a rock at your local car show. Mall crawlers - want to look like they "go places" without damaging that expensive skid plate they bought.  They have high end rigs, and keep them spotless.  Typical signs include big rims and low profile offroad tires and lots of ducks on the windshield. Racers - creative group willing to give up most modern amenities for another .1s off a lap or 1/4 mile.  A fancy body kit may or may not be more aerodynamic but they know some painters tape across panel seams is.  And have the time slips to prove it.  Dont expect to find them with the flashy parts, they know that's mostly for looks and sounds.  Look for gutted interiors, fire extinguishers and 5 point harnesses.  Small wheels and big sidewalls are a dead giveaway.  Rs3 with a big carbon wing? Let's play.  Rs3 on 16" beadlocks? Nope I'm out. Diesel bros - I dont associate with diesel bros despite working in a diesel truck shop.  I actively avoid this group and dont want to be any part of that. Supercars - often times not even car people but they have the money and need to justify that 500k ferrari somehow so they make it to the shows for us poor people to admire.  You probably know more about their car then they do.  But you probably thought more about their car than they ever have also. I know there are other sub cultures but these are the most common groups at any cars n coffee in my area. Argue which group you do or dont fall in that I miss judged below

October 10, 2024 - Driving enthusiasts could care less about why and what makes a car what it is, instead focusing purely on how the car feels to drive as a function of their own driver capability. Doing is appreciating, and driver assists are the devil. Minus the negative connotations, I would describe driving enthusiasts as control freaks.
