Functional Interfaces in Java | Baeldung
March 26, 2025 - Note that Java 8’s default methods are not abstract and do not count; a functional interface may still have multiple default methods. We can observe this by looking at the Function’s documentation. The most simple and general case of a lambda is a functional interface with a method that receives one value and returns another. This function of a single argument is represented by the Function interface, which is parameterized by the types of its argument and a return value:
Generic Functional Interfaces for functional composition or currying in java 8?
That line doesn't make any sense :) @FunctionalInterface is an annotation, you never use it like that. First off you need a type that is a function with two parameter a,b -> result. This is already present and is BiFunction. Then you need something that take a bifunction, a value and return a function with a single parameter and use the given value as the second. This something is a method: public static Function makePartial(BiFunction original, A value) { return x -> original.apply(value, x); } This take a bifunction (A,B -> R) and a value A, returns a function (B -> R) that stores A in the closure. Here's how to use: public static void main(String[] args) { BiFunction sum = (a,b) -> a+b; System.out.println(sum.apply(4, 2)); // 6 Function plusFive = makePartial(sum, 5); System.out.println(plusFive.apply(3)); // 8 } More on reddit.com
Handling Checked Exceptions in Java Functional Interfaces (Lambdas)
Usually I either have ugly inline try catch blocks, a private method doing the same, or I make sure the method I call only uses unchecked exceptions - but it’s not ideal and and unfortunately a posterbook example of Java's design. More on reddit.com
Why would you use default methods in interfaces?
Please ensure that: Your code is properly formatted as code block - see the sidebar (About on mobile) for instructions You include any and all error messages in full You ask clear questions You demonstrate effort in solving your question/problem - plain posting your assignments is forbidden (and such posts will be removed) as is asking for or giving solutions. Trying to solve problems on your own is a very important skill. Also, see Learn to help yourself in the sidebar If any of the above points is not met, your post can and will be removed without further warning. Code is to be formatted as code block (old reddit: empty line before the code, each code line indented by 4 spaces, new reddit: https://imgur.com/a/fgoFFis ) or linked via an external code hoster, like pastebin.com, github gist, github, bitbucket, gitlab, etc. Please, do not use triple backticks (```) as they will only render properly on new reddit, not on old reddit. Code blocks look like this: public class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } You do not need to repost unless your post has been removed by a moderator. Just use the edit function of reddit to make sure your post complies with the above. If your post has remained in violation of these rules for a prolonged period of time (at least an hour), a moderator may remove it at their discretion. In this case, they will comment with an explanation on why it has been removed, and you will be required to resubmit the entire post following the proper procedures. To potential helpers Please, do not help if any of the above points are not met, rather report the post. We are trying to improve the quality of posts here. In helping people who can't be bothered to comply with the above points, you are doing the community a disservice. I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. When I don't remember which to use I always refer to this list . I've always felt this functional interface business is just bad design when compared with C# simple Action/Function. Another victim of type erasure. More on reddit.com

July 2, 2024 - In Java, the Predicate functional interface is a part of the java.util.function package introduced in Java 8. It represents a predicate (boolean-valued function) of one argument. It is often used when you need to evaluate a condition on an object and return a boolean value indicating whether the condition is true or false. The Predicate interface defines a single method named test() which takes an argument of a specified type and returns a boolean result.
