I see a lot of youtubers that I follow suggest that an account there is worth it and maybe even essential for some great tips and courses. Do you use them? Are they good?

I want to learn programming this year but I don't know if I should PAY a course on Skillshare or Udemy to learn Python/C++ or try to go and browse the internet to learn them.
Please tell me I don’t know what to do
Hello,
I wanted to know if Udemy is legit to learn hypnotherapy? Or skillshare? I would like to further my education but I’m not sure if learning what they teach is true, authentic, practical and really is used in the world of hypnotherapy.
I’m always looking for new ways to learn. I remember all those Skillshare ads on YouTube lol but am a little skeptical since ive been in the industry for a while and dont know if any courses are worth it for my level. Any experiences?
I'm reading advise online that it's better to upload courses you create onto your own platform instead of Udemy/Skillshare, reasons being (not an exhaustive list):
-
Build an email list - You can collect emails whereas Udemy/Skillshare they won't share that information.
-
Extension of above - you get to upsell other courses/products/services, whereas Udemy/SS you'd have to create more courses in order to create credibility (not sure how true that is?)
-
You only get a fraction of the revenue (I understand Skillshare works a bit differently but a fraction nonetheless), whereas if you had your own platform you would get everything.
However...if you were to sell your courses on your own platform you'd need (I imagine) something like Kajabi which costs $100+/month to use, then the time + effort to create your platform - is it really worth it? Would love to hear from people who have actually tried both methods i.e. Udemy/SS (or some other course marketplace) vs own platform.
Anyone here have an idea?
I am not too sure what I want right now, though I was considering a course in computer programming and/or technical writing.
I used both and found an overlap in the courses. Some of the creators put the same courses across these sites along with Lynda. Udemy has sales regularly for their courses with no month to month payment so I preferred that one.
I'm announcing the removal of all my courses from Udemy and Skillshare. I've learned firsthand that these two platforms, despite being the largest in the industry, operate in a way that I consider detrimental to instructors. It's truly disappointing. I began noticing some concerning rules and behaviors, including low fees, options to give away courses for free, and the prevalence of bot-run fake accounts. It appears these platforms prioritize their own profit, often at the expense of instructors, especially those just starting out and lacking an established audience. They effectively capitalize on the hard work instructors put into their courses, while the instructors themselves earn very little.
My advice to anyone starting out is this: even if it seems challenging, avoid uploading your courses to Udemy or Skillshare. Don't contribute to their profits while you earn mere pennies. Instead, I recommend setting up on a free platform like Google Classroom and focusing on self-promotion. It's completely free, and you retain 100% of the benefits.

There's so many learning platforms out there offering similar coursework. How do you choose?
Generally speaking, if someone lists Udemy/Coursera/CourseCareers/Pluralsight/Skillshare certifications on their resume/cv, do you put any weight in it or does it push you away?
When assessing these points on a resume, what things do you consider? Is it the site? Some grade? The specific certification? Do you all value one of these sites over another?
I remember hearing about a platform that offers tons of free courses and classes, kind of like taking online college courses but without the cost. I can’t, for the life of me, remember what it was called though. Has anyone else heard of something like this?
Right now, I usually turn to audiobooks, podcasts, YouTube, and social media to learn new things, but I love the idea of something more interactive and structured. Any recommendations?
Hoi, I am a bba student and I am aiming towards getting placed by the end of my program.
I want to go for advance Excel related cours and I know youtube is an alternative and I have learnt the basics from youtube only but the problem is there is too much content and no organization of topics and it often leads to confusion and doubts.
So is it worth buying a course for advance Excel learning from these platforms? Does their certificate has some value? ( is it worth mentioning in resume ) Or should I opt for offline classes somewhere else?
Or if anyone else have some other suggestions, do let me know.
Thank you.
