I'm considering getting a udacity nanodegree, though I'm not 100% certain which field. I work as a web developer now, but would like to dive into either AI (general or for financial trading) or blockchain.
I'm a big fan of Udemy courses, mostly for building fun web apps or react native apps, but it seems like Udacity offers more educational resources instead of just code-alongs.
I'm looking for advice based on the following criteria:
- As Udemy is much cheaper ($200 courses are often on sale for $15), are the Udacity courses that much better at teaching and applying concepts?
- Is the online support effective? I did an online coding bootcamp a couple of years ago, and the lack of support was a nightmare - I don't want to find myself in that position again given the price.
- Is my lack of specific interest (I'm looking at most AI courses or a blockchain one) going to be a big issue? For example, is the gravity of the decision closer to say, choosing a class vs choosing a major?
Any advice is greatly appreciated - thank you!

Nanodegrees and techdegrees which treehouse offers are all scams. For places that want a degree the only one that will matter will come from a college. For those that dont care, they wont give two you know whats if youwent to college, studied through udemy, or got some nanodegree.
Thing to keep in mind too is this. The projects you would be doing are the EXACT same as everyone else. Yes,that's also true of udemy but its a heck of a lot cheaper. The idea isnt to use these projects on a resume (seriously do NOT do that) but rather to give you an idea of how things work and provide you the tools and knowledge to go out on your own.

Udemy is cheap and today courses were for 389 INR.(6 days left on this price btw) Udacity is costly and a biased company, they don't give scholarship to anybody but doing some bias. It's costly if you go by EMI method. Don't know how many times I applied and gave genuine reason but this ed-tech platform is biased. Coursera? Meh, all the MAANG companies trying to make profit through selling courses. Google courses on Coursera? God, everybody is doing it for free due to college providing them or Capgemini providing it to employees. Tried many courses from all MAANG companies who want to MAANG our paisa, lol. Tried meta Frontend courses as audit, that Middle eastern girl is no where to be found online, and how on earth she took Meta Git course when it's being released now! She took it so early and while giving a rote answer : "I did this course and it helped to scale Instagram message platform". Behen ko lagta humare maathe par C hai. To make target more audience, le bringing every person from every race to show they really care about every race. Go with Udemy, I find it cheap. Colt steele, Stephen Grinder, AWS Stephen, John Smilga, Maxmillian are few good instructors for web-dev. Z-security for cybersec, bug bounty, ethical hacking on Udemy too. For Devops Kodecloud, on Youtube you'll find him teaching Docker and kubernetes. If you want to learn Python then Charles Severance from University on Michigan on Coursera, that's it. I'm currently going thought the Udacity developing Android apps course. I'm just over half-way through, and its been a great resource, and challenging at various parts. Without getting the feedback/certificate, its free, and you can't really go wrong at that price. And as you mentioned, being taught by Google engineers is a huge plus. I plan to complete this entire track for a solid foundation: https://www.springboard.com/learning-paths/android/ I haven't taken the Udemy course you mentioned, but I've taken the complete iOS 9 developer course from the same instructor. His code gives me nightmares. When you're through building any of his apps, you're left with an inextensible mess of tangled code. If time is of the essence and you're looking to build on what you've learned, its not a good starting point. He does however explain what he is doing well, and his teaching style is very approachable (voice/intonation etc.). I wouldn't recommend his course as a first stop for beginners, his code is a bit too sloppy for my liking. So far in my Android journey, I've gotten the most from reading head first Android. I've paid for a couple of courses on udemy, but haven't used the others. My experience is that there's very few courses on udemy that are worth anywhere near the amount they cost, even when they are reduced. There are exceptions for sure, like the WebDev course by Colt Steele seems to be quite comprehensive and well worth paying the £12.99 when it is on sale. But then there's other courses on, say, linux sysadmin and the like, which cost the same but has about 2 hours of content where all that happens is the teacher vaguely telling you about basic terminal commands. Basic stuff you could probably find for free in a youtube video without much effort.
