I'd recently posted here about the lack of quality for original movies in 2019.
There were some good movies but not many great ones.
Uncut Gems was a 2 hour 15 minute thrill ride. Adam Sandler absolutely killed the role. Killed it. I couldn't stand Adam Sandler in a dramatic role (even a dramatic scene!) before this.
This wasn't like watching Adam Sandler as Howard. He embodied the character.
The movie itself is thrilling and keeps you on the hook the whole time. You really feel the frenetic pace of Howard's life. You feel the ups and downs of his life.
The supporting actors were terrific, loved the ethnic pawn brokers and loan sharks.
Everything in this movie was realistic and the set design set the tone for the whole movie. The score also keeps the viewer hooked.
This movie became the best drama of the year for me, hands down. I can't wait to rewatch this movie at home, with full Theatre conditions set.
Best Comedy of 2019: Captain Hagen's Bed and Breakfast
Best Drama of 2019: Uncut Gems
Honestly this movie is what got me more interested in movies. The suspense all feels so real. The dialogue, even with all of the people talking and yelling felt realistic. It was like a controlled chaos that was spiraling out of control, and could snap at any second. It may be unpopular to say it was the best of 2019, but I agree. So far Parasite is the only movie that i’ve watched from the past year that’s on the same level. I’m not sure what other people put above this but id be curious to know so i can watch them.
It wasn't a masterpiece film, but a masterpiece Adam Sandler film. I'm not a big fan of Adam Sandler but this is probably the greatest Adam Sandler movie I've seen and I think he deserves some praise for his role.
Is it just me, or did everyone make a big deal about a very mid movie?
