I collect obscure words.
Ooh im gonna have fun looking through your dictionary in more detail later! I've started collecting obscure words on my notes app, and it's a lot of fun I have to say! Here's what I've collected, sorry if there's a repeat in here! Leucistic - white animals that aren't albinos Quixotic - extremely idealistic; impractical and unrealistic Myrmidon - a follower or subordinate of a powerful person, typically one who is unscrupulous or carries out orders unquestioningly. Insouciance - casual lack of concern; indifference Sybarite - a person who is self-indulgent in their fondness for sensuous luxury (hedonist-like, but not the same). Cingulomania - a strong desire to hug someone Aquiline - like an eagle (usually used to describe a hook-like nose, sometimes to describe aristocratic noses) Sibilant - a hissing sound, eg "a sibilant whisper" Echolalia - repeating someone else's words repeatedly. Used in psychiatry as a symptom for certain disorders; common in child speech development. English is such a fascinating language to dig into due to the various influences within it. My list alone has references to Greek mythology, some of Latin origin, some from French, as well as a reference to a Spanish novel. I'm always delighted when I find a text that uses a word I'm unfamiliar with. More on reddit.com

r/CasualConversation on Reddit: I collect obscure words.
December 9, 2021 -

I like to collect obscure words. I have them in my Obscure Word Dictionary I've been building, separated into nouns, adjectives, and verbs! So far I have 77 of them. I like to write, mainly science fiction, but all sorts of stuff really, and I love to collect things, so I figured I'd combine the two. I also collect coins, stones, and pokemon cards now because I like the art. But yeah, if you want a word you might not have heard before all you gotta do is ask! And in the meantime, anyone else out there like to collect things?

Oh, and here's a few words just for fun!

Ultracrepidarian: someone who has no special knowledge of a subject but who expresses an opinion on it.

Synastry: concurrence of starry position or influence upon two persons : similarity of condition or fortune prefigured by astrology

Clowder: a group of cats.

Oh you know what, I'll just do this. Here's my full dictionary if anyone is interested: https://imgur.com/a/6x9FXRO

Edit: You know, I have come to find that everyone, literally everyone, knows at least one or two words like this. It's actually a really special thing I think. And I love collecting them from the people I know, and that's why, I think, this reddit post feels really special to me. Like y'all are throwing out your favorite odd words, and I've added a ton to my dictionary today thanks to you guys. And it just goes to show everyone's got a little something special about them. Big thanks to everyone who is helping to add to my dictionary! Y'all are my heroes.
