Reinstalling Windows 10 from a USB while keeping your files safe can be a bit nerve-wracking, but it’s totally doable! I've been through this process myself. During the installation process, you’ll be asked whether you want to keep your files and apps or do a clean install. Make sure you select the option that says “Keep personal files and apps.” If you accidentally click on “Remove everything,” it’s game over for your files.Make sure the USB drive you’re using is at least 8 GB and formatted properly (NTFS or FAT32). Also, ensure it’s not filled to the brim. A cluttered USB might fail during installation. I once tried using an old drive that was barely working, and surprise, surprise—it didn’t help. When you reinstall, it’s important to check for updates after the installation completes. If you skip this, you might miss crucial security patches or features that improve performance. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and make sure everything’s up to date.Depending on your hardware, you might need certain drivers after reinstalling. It’s a good idea to download those from your manufacturer’s website ahead of time and have them ready. Otherwise, you might find yourself with a device that isn’t working right after the install. If you’ve got software that requires activation (like Microsoft Office), make sure you write down your license keys before you start. Reinstalling Windows 10 from USB might cause you to lose activation, and you’ll want that key handy to get things running again.

Steps to Reinstall Windows 10/11 without Losing Data
● Creating a bootable recovery drive will format the connected USB flash drive, and extracting data requires manually adjusting your crashed computer's BIOS settings to boot from this new media. ... If your system is not functioning in an ideal way, then you might reinstall Windows and fix most of the persisting issues related to it. Nevertheless, if you can't afford to lose your important content while reinstalling Windows 10, then don't worry.

Win 10 > 11 upgrade via USB? How do I keep data
Tools like Rufus can be used to bypass the hardware requirement checks for Windows 11, however this is not advised to do. Installing Windows 11 on an unsupported computer will result in the computer no longer being entitled to nor receiving all updates, in addition to reduced performance and system stability. It is one thing to experiment and do this for yourself, however please do not suggest others, especially less tech savvy users attempt to do this. Reinstall Windows without losing anything
What would be the point of reinstalling Windows if you don't wany to lose 'anything'? Make sure your data is backed up, and reinstall Windows. Then install your drivers. Then your software. For Steam you can just copy the directory somewhere else, then reinstall Steam in Windows, and copy the directory. Steam does have a backup feature, but it's much slower than just copying the data somewhere else. Windows Store software must be reinstalled. It should only take an hour or two anyway, so long as you download the drivers you need before hand, but you can do that while double checking backups, and copying out any data. More on reddit.com

How do I install windows 10 with a USB?
Further to the link, you just need to follow the instructions. You need a USB drive greater than 4gb I believe. Then the media creation tool will make your USB drive bootable. Once you get your PC, just stick the USB drive in and it should boot from the USB drive. If it doesn't you may need to enter the bios and make the USB drive the primary boot drive (although you aren't usually required to do this). Follow the instructions and you're done. It's very easy More on reddit.com

r/techsupport on Reddit: Reinstalling Windows from a USB without losing files?
May 15, 2021 -

I think the new update broke my PC, because ever since updating it and shutting it down before going to sleep yesterday, my Windows no longer boots. If I try to boot it in safe mode, I get an error named "LogonUI: The System Detected An Overrun Of A Stack-based Buffer In This Application". I tried to restore to a previous version but the process failed, I restored Windows without losing my files but I faced the same problem, and I can't roll back the update.

Right now the only option I got is installing an older version of Windows from a USB, but I don't know if I'll lose my files. As a musician I have a lot of projects that are very important to me and I don't want to lose them. Can I get any advice?
