August 12, 2025 - When Meny Vaknin opened Marcel Kitchen & Bakery in 2017 he brought “convenient deliciousness” to Upper Montclair. Taking over the former Cozy End space, Vaknin created his own cozy place that’s become an all-day gathering spot in town.

December 30, 2024 - Isn't CM chicken a chain/franchise? Those are exempt from coverage on Best of NJ, so they weren't included in the initial polling options. We were looking for more sit down restaurants, so Millburn Deli wasn't included either.

October 31, 2025 - Reservations at this spot, serving an unusual combination of Italian/Japanese food in downtown Montclair, are the hottest tickets in town, and tables fill up quickly on the first of each month, when the (online) reservation book opens. But then again, chef Robbie Felice has long been a New Jersey Monthly favorite. Two of his restaurants—pastaRAMEN and Osteria Crescendo in Westwood—made it onto our 2025 Best Restaurants list.

July 15, 2024 - The only thing more disappointing than losing Bivio would be seeing it opened as a lesser version of its glorious self. One visit to Bivio assuaged my concerns. Cafasso has recaptured the essence of what made Bivio great. He has changed almost nothing at the shop other than adding a few counter seats — a wise decision. Bivio is once again in the upper echelon of not only Montclair restaurants, but New Jersey pizzerias.
