My company has been using UPS for 50 years. Typically, we are billed weekly with an invoice, brown remittance envelope, and a payment coupon with the remittance address inside. Two weeks ago they stopped providing the return envelopes and omitted the remit to address. They only provide ACH remittance instructions. The problem being is we are not set up to make payments that way and want to continue to mail our checks to them. I realize that cashing a $2.00 check costs more to process than it's worth, as does the stamp I am putting on it. I just think going to a monthly billing statement would be easier or at least give us the option to continue to mail in a check. How is everyone else dealing with this changer?

Yeah, unfortunately it’s 2025 now. Most big companies have either stopped accepting paper check payments or will eventually stop. As a business owner myself, I can’t imagine how writing paper checks and mailing them is not a pain, but using accounting software is…. That’s just a crazy concept to me. QuickBooks is like insanely easy to use. My customers pay right through the invoice by credit card or ACH. Paying vendors takes no time at all. Everything is recorded in the GL. No manual entries, no drama whatsoever. You’d be surprised how much more time you have to grow/run your business when you’re not doing 1960s bookkeeping. And from UPS’ standpoint, think about how many people it takes to open and process payments in envelopes. UPS ships for 1.6 million customers each day. If you’re getting 1.6 million checks in the mail every month, you probably need a couple hundred people minimum to open envelopes and process payments. When customers pay by ACH you need an automated system to post the payments. It’s the way of the world now days.

I'm with you - it is absurd that they are taking away the ability to pay with a check. Why would I want to give someone access to my bank account? And I'm certainly NOT paying an extra fee to pay by credit card. Besides, the whole reason I switched to only paying UPS by check is because they mess up so many things and then automatically charge me and then I have to dispute it and maybe, maybe not, get a refund. So I am still remitting checks to the address that I've always mailed them to. Let's see how long this continues to work for us! If that's a "ME" problem, so be it.

January 14, 2024Someone created an account using my billing info and UPS will not remove the account.
I’ve had a similar, infuriating problem. Back in January, I dropped some holiday gift returns with pre-paid shipping off at a UPS Store. The clerk mumbled something about making a new label, but I didn’t think any thing of it. A few weeks later, I got a UPS invoice for those packages. It turns out that they were pre-paid FedEx, not UPS. The clerk could have told me I was dropping packages off at the wrong place, but for some reason he did not. I was mad about the bill, but I paid the invoice, since I had made a mistake. Since then, I have continued to receive invoices for that UPS account and I have come to realize that the account they used is NOT my UPS account. I don’t really know for sure, but I think they billed my mistake to someone else’s UPS account and changed the address for that account to the return address on my packages. The account is pretty active and the balance due is now around $5000. From the tracking numbers, I can see where the shipments are headed. The last time I looked, most of them were going to an Amazon distribution center in Florida. I think account belongs to someone’s business. I have called and talked with both Billing and Tech Support, but no one seems to be able to solve the issue. My current approach is to send a letter to the payment address with each invoice. I don’t know if this will be effective, but it only takes a few minutes to clone a previous version of a complain letter and mail it. Each phone call to UPS was probably 45 minutes - I don’t need to spend my time fixing their problems. PS - To get to a real human when you call UPS, just shout “Agent, Agent, Agent” angrily into the phone. More on reddit.com

I am currently using the THRIVE Promo Code from the UPS website. Upon entering my credit card info, I select "Different Billing Address". Immediately once I do this, it removes the promo code. I then proceed to apply the promo code again. More on reddit.com

Was just given this letter today by my Dad. I haven’t lived at the address on the letter for about 7 years and I’ve never had a credit line with UPS. Never received any information on this via email and nothing has shown up on my credit report.
What is the best route to get this taken care of if it is? Just call and fight it? Any advice?

It wouldn't be a credit line. It would be a shipping account. It almost sounds like someone got your name and address off the internet and used it to set up a UPS shipping account. They then put a credit card on file that was ultimately declined. In the meantime, they used this account to ship items and avoid paying for shipping. Edit: On the other hand, it seems suspect they want a mailed-in payment. UPS billing is very digital now. The address in Virginia is a mailbox at a UPS Store, which is also suspicious. The mail-in address to Chicago is a P.O. Box, which is also suspicious. Starting to think this is some kind of fancy scam to get a check in the mail that could be altered and cashed.

UPS corporate is in Atlanta, Georgia. That Virginia Beach address is a UPS STORE. UPS stores are independently owned and operated while exclusively providing UPS services. If this was legit, the letterhead wouldn't contain the Virginia Beach address. Regardless, if it was the Virginia Beach address attempting to collect on a debt, they wouldn't give an 877# when their phone number is 757-471-6471. It's Reddit so good idea to doubt anything Im saying. But a few clicks of the mouse should verify all of that.... 100% a scam - IMO
