September 27, 2022How are UPS Delivery Estimates calculated?
A computer tries to formulate an efficient route ever day based on what addresses have packages that day. It tries to save gas by making the route as short as possible. But the computer (or the programmer that wrote the code) has never actually done the job, so it doesn't know about all the little things that the driver does, like: You can't actually make a U-turn in the middle of a residential street. You can't park on a four lane rode with no curb and deliver to the other side of the street. Or the tail end of the route has a few commercial stops and needs to be delivered before 5pm so the middle part of the route can wait. The driver does know these things and adjusts his route accordingly (much to the dismay of the people that paid a bunch of money for a broken computer program). More on reddit.com

Got a delivery time of 1:15pm to 5:15pm tomorrow for an item that requires a signature. Does UPS ever deliver before the delivery time? I was gonna take off, but if I can work half a day and just be home by 1:00pm that’d be great, but I don’t want to miss the package.
Anyone with any experience or knowledge of this?

It gets there when it gets there. There are 400 to 1200 packages on that truck. Sometimes you may not get it at all if a loader put it on the wrong truck of a route that's no where near your route. We will run misloads that are close but if not we take them back and you may get it tomorrow if it isn't misloaded again. If you want to have your package by a time then paying for next day will get it to you 98% of the time....2% accounts for issues.
