If the package is something small, putting the sticker on it can be nice. We're supposed to test for weight and shifting contents before each lift, but a clue that "this thing's got some heft" is appreciated. I'm sending out a Pelican case that would require a heavy package label on it. I was planning on just leaving the label on the case since I will be sending it out once a year to a calibration lab. Can I reuse the sticker or does one have to be applied each time? The weight isn’t going to change since it is going to have the same instruments in it.

April 3, 2025 - I love loading a truck and having the heavy sticker on a 23 pound box. And then grabbing a shoebox with nothing on it and falling over. Check the label and it says 149.9999999 ... I like seeing them on small packages so I know to treat it with the respect it deserves ( tossing it long snapper style from the conveyor belt into the truck )

The ups website says I do, but I can't get ups to sell me any. CS doesn't have any idea what they are.

Over 70 tape is available in free supplies, I don't think the rectangle stickers are really used anymore. It's not really required.

You don't have to, but it really helps prevent injury to anyone that has to handle it.

At my site, I had to shift plenty of unbearably heavy packages from one conveyor belt to another, and they were all marked "H." I didn't check their weights because I was rushing to get everything on the belt, but they had to be more than 70 pounds each. I would have crushed my foot with one of those packages if I wasn't wearing steel-toed boots. I thought that the weight limit on UPS items was only 70 pounds, and that's what I signed up for. Please tell me that those "H" packages aren't all 70 pounds, because I feel like a pathetic weakling.

UPS small package system goes up to 150 lbs. There's a contractual right to request help for anything over 70. In practice, particularly in hubs, you'll just get moved somewhere else if you need help for them, except unusual circumstances. Stuff like a 149# crate with shifting contents that will break your arm or leg if it tips 15 degrees.

Over 70 lbs packages are supposed to have highlight tape added by the shipper. That doesn't happen. The pickup driver should put tape on any over 70s that don't have it. That doesn't happen. The unloaded should be putting highlight tape on before unloading any over 70s that don't have it. That doesn't happen. Over 70s should be sent to irreg sort. That doesn't always happen. Irreg sort should put highlight tape on. That doesn't happen. The H on the label was added because of the above. It should only be on over 70s. Again, that doesn't happen. The labels should have rhe correct weight. That doesn't happen. The only real way to get a correct weight is to weigh it. Some packages will have the gross weight printed on them, which should also be correct. You don't have to handle over 70s by yourself. You can get someone to help you with them. Over 70s should not go on the belt with other packages. There should be a method on how to properly get them through the hub. Usually, that's cart them to a designated irreg only belt, or cart them to where they go.
