r/UPS on Reddit: Does UPS hold a package?
November 23, 2023 -

I have a signature required package from Lenovo thru UPS that the delivery date was originally going to be Friday (which was good because I would have been home all day) but it recently moved to a delivery date of Tuesday, which is going to be annoying because I work that day.

One of the emails that I got from Lenovo did state this “If you are unavailable to receive your delivery your order will be returned and processed you will for a refund.” which has leaved me worried that if I am unable to get it on the day of delivery that it will be sent back immediately and I won’t be able to go and pick it up.

I tried to signup for mychoice for trying to do a signature release but it says signature release is unavailable for this item. I do have some parents that live with me, would they be able to sign in my stead for this package or do I have to be there?

Also, the most important thing, if UPS is unable to deliver the package that day due to them not being home too, does UPS hold a package for X number of days for my to come by a local UPS Store and pick it up, or will it get immediately returned to the sender and I’m SOL if I’m not there that exact one time?

Is this new?

UPS is notoriously bad in my area for seeing an apartment building, going “nah” and updating the tracking to “needs additional info” for building entry (the lobby is open)

Usually when that happened they’d just ask me to pick it up at the store the next day, but lately they’ve been saying they’ll try again, and if that doesn’t work, return it to sender. I have to log in and request the pick up, and it’s $5.99

It was always annoying to tack on an extra day of shipping for when they do that, but now charging extra for that is crazy

Even “releasing” the package and asking them to leave it outside still results in the “needs additional info” and a threat to return to sender

I order live bugs for my pet spider and since temps are fluctuating to freezing where I’m at I marked it as “hold for pickup” just in case, so they wouldnt freeze and die. Today I got the notification it was delivered, but they just listed the city name it was delivered to; didn’t provide a specific address or store number to pick it up at. It says ‘Joni’ received it, which I’m guessing is a store employee? Bc it’s not me. They didn’t provide a picture in delivery confirmation so I have zero clues to location, or if it even got to a store in the first place. There’s multiple UPS locations in my city and I’ve tried calling around, only one has answered and they didn’t see anything about it. I’ve put in a claim to hopefully get more info, but I’d be very grateful for advice for navigating this.

I have my UPS account setup to redirect all packages to my local UPS store for pickup. I checked my latest delivery and it no longer shows it will hold my package at my local UPS store. I just get a button to upgrade to UPS ground. When I click the button it wants $13 to hold at local UPS access point or pay $20 a year to upgrade to UPS my choice premium plus membership. Is this is a bug or a new charge going forward?

I’ m wanting to order the 15 Pro Max. However, with my work schedule I won't be home so don't want it stolen. I would prefer to have Ups hold for pickup. I do have a my choice account but last time I tried it said due to shipper restrictions delivery couldn't be changed so it was left on my front porch for hours. It's weird because the order prior which was from Apple too it was fine. Anyone know how to do this because maybe I'm just not doing it right

r/UPS on Reddit: UPS office won't "hold" packages after unsuccessful delivery?

So apparently UPS is now horrible in my area. For years my UPS guy would sign for things if needed and leave packages, but they either changed people or they cracked down and now I have issue when I can't sign because I'm at work. My local UPS WILL NOT deliver on Saturdays, they just don't in my area, so it's M-F only during business hours which ofcourse means no one it home because we work. The biggest problem is that the "hub" serving my area doesn't offer any customer pickup and wont hold anything, nor can I direct packages elsewhere. So basically anything shipped via UPS (& any retailers using UPS) to my address will never get delivered. I've called, can called, and it's like dealing with the IRS... I'm sure I'm not the only one. Why doesn't UPS hold packages anymore at the hub?

Find elsewhere

Hi,

My partner ordered an engraved Apple Pen via the Apple Store. It requires a signature and we cannot change it by any mechanism we've found (called UPS, Apple Store)

The delivery was marked as attempted and missed at 4PM. I was home all day, they did not ring the doorbell. After it was marked undelivered I went down and looked for the delivery attempt slip and there was none. This is when my partner tried and failed to change the delivery requirements (no sig needed, or hold it at UPS for pickup)

He comes home at 6:30PM and finds a delivery slip, initially thinks I am a fool, but then he sees the time on the slip is 5:43PM

So what do I do today??? It feels like my only option is to bundle up in a parka and sit on the stoop from 4PM - 6PM?! Which seems absurd for a luxury item!

Does the website/tracking actually update when the requested had been processed? I live in E TN so I know it'll be delayed because of weather (and it's after effects) anyway but I want to know when it's ready for me to pick up. Is this just a case of needed to refresh tracking periodically?

Edit: after another phonecall apparently there was some behind the scenes issues which was part of why I wasn't seeing the pickup bar status and having other issues. All resolved. Thank you for your help and answers! Everyone stay safe and warm, especially you drivers and behind the scenes ups workers.

I ordered something that requires a signature upon delivery. Ive done this many times before. I work, and am not home when they attempt delivery. In the past, they attempt delivery of signature-required items, fail to, then leave a note explaining when to come pick it up from the distribution hub.

Not so this time. Now Im informed theyll try delivery again on monday, which also wont work as I wont be home... I also have the option of picking it up at some unspecified time, for an aditional fee. This has never happened before. Frankly Im pissed; I already paid for shipping, now they are refusing to deliver it or make it available unless I pay even more.

Its illegal, its ridiculous, and UPS should be ashamed.

r/UPS on Reddit: Is it true that UPS will "hold" the package if it arrives too early??
October 12, 2024 -

Label created Oct. 9th, UPS received Oct. 10th, arrived in my area Oct. 11th and said arriving with a delivery window of 1:45-4:45pm. 2 hours later it updates to delayed, and when I called they said its because its two-day air and that it "has to take two business days" so it won't go out for delivery til Monday and thats why they stopped it. Is this true?? Will they cancel a delivery and hold my item so that it takes "two days"??

Side note, I changed it to pick up at access point hoping that if it was on the truck and they told them not to deliver it, that maybe the driver would drop it off at the access point today and I could go get it (long shot, I know). Question is, when it updates to "Hold at Access Point Confirmed" many hours later, does that mean the access point has it? It updated to a delivery date of monday like the person on the phone said, so I'm wondering if the access point isn't just holding it til monday?

Thanks for any help!! Soooo frustrated.

r/UPS on Reddit: Question about ups store holding
3 weeks ago - The UPS store near me rents mailboxes like the post office. If you rent a mailbox from them, you can ship almost anything to your box and they will hold it for you. If you don't rent a box, the package has to be shipped via UPS for them to hold it.

r/UPS on Reddit: How to check if a UPS Store will hold packages for pickup?

I'm planning to overnight a package to a UPS store to be held for pickup, since the recipient doesn't know their destination address yet. From what I've read online, not all stores allow this if you don't already have a mailbox with them and many people suggest calling the store to find out. Unfortunately the destination UPS store is closed today, and my shipment needs to go out today. Is there any other way to tell if the destination store offers this? If I'm shipping from another UPS store, will the store be able to look it up?
