Good morning, Daly75.
Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum. Please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well.
Based on the description provided above, you would like to ensure that your label prints correctly in Word and is scannable by UPS or the post office.
When printing mailing labels with barcodes for UPS or other priority shipments, it’s essential to ensure that the label size and formatting meet the requirements for successful scanning. Also, this issue may be caused by printer or Word settings that need to be changed. So, let's work together as a team to get to the bottom of this. But to better assist you I need to ask:
- Are you using a laser printer? Or an inkjet printer? Perhaps a thermal printer?
- If you're not sure, can you provide me the brand and model number of your printer instead?
- What version of Word are you using? I specifically need the Product name and Version number as highlighted in the guide and photo below.

- Have you installed a barcode scanner app on your mobile device and used that to test your printed barcodes? Testing this way is one method to test the labels you print. If app can't read it, you'll need to make adjustments in both the printer and the Word settings.
- And speaking of labels and barcodes they are all printed in black and white, right? No other colors are involved?
I appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.
Hope to hear from you soon.

When printing a label to fit the area, it wont go larger when i send to the ups they have to enter it to enter it manually beacuse the print is small
Does it matter what size you print a shipping label?
They are flexible. Most labels are about 8 x 5, I've used labels much smaller for small packets.

I want to return something, so ebay let me print out a USPS shipping label. I had my browser print it out at 100%, but it was way too huge and didn't even fit on the paper.
Then I printed it out with the "Shrink to Fit" print setting twice - one in landscape and one in portrait. Should I use the landscape one or portrait one, and does it matter if the label is shrunk? Or can the barcode reader handle barcodes of any size?
They are flexible. Most labels are about 8 x 5, I've used labels much smaller for small packets.
Worked in transport.
Short answer - Not really. As long as it's readable.
Long answer - don't be a 'dick'. Sorry, can't think of a better word. Something reasonable. If it's too small, then it might not be readable by machine, which lets face it, most of this stuff is dealt with via machine of some sort. Sure, if there's an issue a person can take over.
If it fits a sheet of A4, you'll be fine.
Hi friends! Currently when trying to print a label on a 4x6 label printer it comes out super small. Basically the scale you see of shipping label to paper, is the same scale that comes out printed. I’ve tried changing a lot of settings but can’t figure it out. Was curious if people had any advice? Fit to paper and fit to printable area don’t do anything
