Moving through UPS On-call pickup: Do NOT over-pack the boxes. People moving tend to do this. If they are over-packed, they WILL split and you WILL lose items. Insurance will NOT pay for items lost from poorly packed boxes. If you press down on the box and it damages whats inside, it's not properly packed. If you press down on the box and the box changes shape, it's not properly packed. SERIOUSLY!! If you give UPS a heavy box with a bunch of random stuff just tossed in, not properly packed, you're gonna get a damaged box with missing items on the other side. Do it right, or else let a professional do it. Since you're doing it yourself, use extra PACKING tape to circle around the box in all three dimensions to give it more structural integrity. Don't use duct tape, don't use Scotch tape, don't use anything other than PACKING tape. Don't wrap the box in paper, don't use string, don't leave old labels on reused boxes. Use the same clear packing tape to attach the labels you print. COVER THE WHOLE LABEL so there is no chance it snags and rips off. Put a copy of the label inside as a backup. Use a sharpie to also hand write the destination address and tracking number on the box just to be extra safe. Know the EXACT weight and dimensions of your sealed boxes. Round ALL fractions (even .01) UP to the nearest whole number or you will be charged a correction fee. Google "UPS Get a Quote" and estimate total costs beforehand so there are no surprises. Drivers can NOT print labels for you. Handwritten waybills are a pain, most drivers don't have them anymore, and they take too long. Use UPS.com. Go to UPS.com and print your own labels ahead of time. There should be a checkbox or dropdown menu to schedule the pickup as you are creating labels. But do NOT print the labels or schedule the pickup UNTIL you have sealed, measured, and weighed each and every box and you're ready for the driver to pick up. Try to give the driver as much of a time window as you have available. Things are still crazy from Christmas. Do NOT put labels on random boxes thinking it will all equal out in the end. Each box's weight/dimension combo is specific to each label. The one that's bigger will get a correction fee, but you probably won't get credit for the one that's smaller, so save yourself the hassle. The driver is supposed to knock on the door and pick them up, so do NOT leave them out in bad weather. You won't know what time the driver will be there, so check the forecast if you do leave them outside. UPS will not pay damage claims for wet boxes YOU left out in the rain (or they might just refuse to pick them up because they're wet). Sorry if this seems like over kill. I've just seen too many people not do it right and then blame UPS for their own mistakes. Think of it this way: You've seen tractor-trailers. UPS completely FILLS tractor-trailers with boxes. Floor to ceiling, front to back. If your box can't survive being at the bottom of that pile , it's not properly packed (and that's a very pretty, probably company-approved load). The few times I've done UPS pickup they left me nothing, they just take the package. I haven't tried to get a receipt though. It will show up as picked up in the tracking though. More on reddit.com

you enter a window for pickup with a time that the packages will be ready. the driver who receives the on demand pickup request will enter the last possible time in order to confirm it, then s/he'll show up whenever it's most convenient for them based on your location. you can leave your packages outside your house with a note, for example, "side door" or "garage" and the driver will pick them up.
