More on reddit.comHow to use UPS to ship to Canada from USA if a company does not ship to Canada?
I have owned a small business in the past few years so overall I am quite familiar with shipping rates, options, and charges.
Especially if you are ordering for personal use I vehemently recommend against using UPS to import anything into Canada. Their brokerage fees have become so high as to be asinine. For example On a $350 dollar package they charged $80 JUST to broker the package and that was on top of $50 of HST - so close to an extra 40% extra on the item cost.
They refused to remove the charge. I have no problem paying HST/Duty but this charge is what amounts to an extortion racket to get the package across the border - which you can plainly tell by the fact that they calculate it based on the value of the shipment. When I called they said I was welcome to broker the package myself which would mean filling out customs forms AND driving to the nearest border to pick up my package. No, I am not joking.
Other companies (DHL, FedEx) charge brokerage fees but not anywhere close to as high. It is basically a racket that is saying pay us or go and get your package yourself at the border. I am unsure if I will use UPS again if they do not fix this and drop the charges.
