I'm experiencing this too. I applied to 50 jobs, 50 boosted proposals, 6 views and 1 hire... Strangely many were verified accounts who had spend good money. Did they hire others, no! It's not like they declined my proposal, they aren't even interviewing other people! More on reddit.com

Hey I just saw lots of negative comments about how upwork is just draining pockets by luring freelancers into ghost jobs. What do you guys think then? Is it not worth investing your time and effort? Although some experts on LinkedIn say otherwise that if you follow it's algorithm and use it smartly you will surely land lots of jobs. Anyways, if not upwork then where and how should a freelancer earn
Edit: So after analyzing all these comments from experienced people, I can conclude that there's no need to spend money/too much on a platform that wants you to do it. Just treat it as a side thing and you'll win smaller projects and just move on. If you want to run a company or an agency go to LinkedIn or other easy and long term client finding platforms. Right?

I’m pretty convinced that upwork has become a scam site. The sheer number of ghost jobs tell me there’s some suspicious stuff going on. If people were actually hiring you’d at least see the jobs interviewing others and more proposals getting looked at. But it’s like they have a fake job posting machine running to extract connects from freelancers.
