My kiddo just graduated from boot camp, and we are talking about prepping her financial readiness now. We want to start building her credit, and figure USAA has some kind of young adult credit card for new service members. What would be the right card to steer her towards since she probably has basically no credit? Thanks for your help!

USAA has really tightened their lending requirements because of Covid. If you want to try, I would recommend their rate advantage Visa or cash back visa. The Amex has higher qualification requirements and is accepted at slightly fewer locations. Outside of USAA, I would start at Nerd Wallet . Discover It and Capital One Platinum tend to be good cards to start with.

I’m in ROTC and recently got the USAA Rewards Visa card with a 5k limit. I was honestly pretty surprised because my other cards have limits of $750, $1000, and $2000. I have decent credit, though. Probably would recommend she apply for their secured card when they release it (should be sometime soon). Other than that, try CapOne as others have advised (NOT creditone lol).

19 and haven’t established any credit yet, I’m not in school, working around 35 hours a week. Would you recommend applying for a USAA credit card or are there better ones to start with? Thank you… P.S. I’m not a student, I work in sales

I like chase cards. You can start with one of the lower tier cards like Chase Freedom and later upgrade to one of the sapphire cards when you are better situated in life (higher income, better credit). That’s what I would do if I could go back.

Try a student credit card from Discover or Cap1. If denied, then apply for a secured card from Discover. US bank also have great reward secured cards. USAA credit cards kinda not good in comparison to other issuers.

There is no specific rewards program with this card, but that's pretty typical with cards that focus on prodiving extra-low interest rates. The USAA Rate Advantage Credit Card does come with a few other helpful perks though like the $0 annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, and no penalty rate.
