USB-C, USB-B, and USB-A: What's the Difference? - ViewSonic Library
1 week ago - The difference between USB-C, USB-B, and USB-A is most obvious in their physical form. But distinctions run much deeper. USB-C is a more versatile and powerful standard and now that it’s the most mainstream, it should remain the primary USB version for years to come.

Why are companies still making products for USB-A and not focusing entirely on USB-C?
Well for one, USB-A cables are everywhere. Everyone and their mother has USB-A cables. USB-C cables just aren't as common. Second, from a designer's perspective a full-featured USB-C port is like an order of magnitude more complex to design for than USB-A. More on reddit.com

Anyone else annoyed at products always including USB-A to USB-C instead of C-C cables?
I'm pretty sure that they do it just save money. Luckily the people in this subreddit probably own multiple C to C cables. The problem arises when companies make products that will not work with C to C cables. More on reddit.com

Do you think that USB-A will be phased out by July 2033?
Probably not. We still saw computers with serial/printer/PS2 ports being released well into the 2010s, so there is clearly no desire to get rid of legacy ports quickly. Besides, USB-A ports will always be cheaper and easier to add than USB-C because they are technically less complicated. Once they exhaust the ports provided by the CPU/Southbridge, motherboard vendors will just use USB-A to fill up the io shield and pad the specs. We're currently seeing that with USB 2.0 ports on products like the ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F GAMING WIFI, which has 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back. Could those have been USB 3? Sure, but that would've made the board $5-$10 more expensive, and who's going to care when 2.0 is plenty for a mouse or keyboard? More on reddit.com

r/UsbCHardware on Reddit: Why are companies still making products for USB-A and not focusing entirely on USB-C?
November 1, 2023 -

I appreciate mods may end up removing this post but there literally isn't another sub more relevant to ask this question.

Why in 2023 are we still caring about USB-A? I see so many reviews who always make note of "good port selection with USB-A and USB-C".

Why are we still trying to appease USB-A so much?!

I simply don't buy the argument that it's due to USB-C being "new technology" as it isn't. USB-C came out in 2014.

To put it into perspective, USB-A came out in 1996. It was around for 18 years until USB-C came along. USB-C has now been around for 9 years.

Micro USB and USB-B have been pretty much phased out now so why are we clinging onto this useless old technology so much? It makes absolutely no sense when pretty much every single other piece of 20th century computer hardware is no longer in production.
