I'm looking for a reasonable mic that I can plug into my Android phone for voiceover work I have a proper one for my PC already, but have a need for a mobile one as well. Any recommendations?
I'd like to think that I, as a 28 year old, am pretty solid with technology. Outside of VR, there's not a whole lot that's above my mental paygrade. But so help my ass, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my 2021 Moto G Power to recognize my North Wireless Mic.
It really seemed as easy as plug the receiver into the USB-C port, pair the mic up to it, and you're good to go. For some reason, my phone just won't recognize it as a microphone. Like I plug the receiver in, and nothing changes. Is there a setting I'm missing, does the big standard Android camera app not recognize external mics? I'm really at a loss.

Can anybody recommend a good mid-range mic that will work with USB C android/Samsung phones for field recordings?
Hi all, going to be doing some location recording and wondering if any of you have experience with phone clip-on microphones. I'm on Android with a USB-C port, recommendations appreciated!
I recently upgraded my Android phone and lost my headphone jack in the process. I used to plug a headset into my headphone jack for long phone calls, but unfortunately it doesn't work with my headphone to USB C dongle.
I'm trying to buy a new headset, but I'm having a hard time finding any USB C ones. Does anyone have experience with this or headset recommendations?
I am looking at mics to improve range & reduce wind and water interference of bird field recording and id using Merlin app.
Desired: Small form; Omnidirectional; Weatherproof; Powered by phone battery;
Nice to have: Hard case or good pouch; Option to connect to cable as well as phone; Option to be more directional (for when you know which direction the bird is);
I wanted to get an external v.lav mic for an event I am going to and I want to hook it up to my new Pixel 7 Pro. I was wondering if this was possible through a usb-c to headphone jack adapter or if I need a specific kind of adapter to make it work
I have a Godox Movelink M2 which has 2 transmitters, and 1 receiver. Putting it in Stereo Mode (It supposedly splits Mic A and B onto the left and right tracks) and recording it on my Smartphone (via Filmic Pro, also tried Open Camera), Only Mic A is being Picked up, So I was thinking, If I buy a TRS to USB-C Adapter, will that solve my problem and record both Mic A and B in seperated Left and Right Tracks respectively?
EDIT: TRS to USB-C WORKS in outputting stereo, Tried it on my Movelink and it sucessfully outputs stereo (one mic per channel) using the TRS Cable plugged into the Boya BY-K4 Cable made for microphones, for USB-C smartphones
Its going to entirely depend on what the phone itself supports at the end of the day. All sorts of things can be sent over USB-C as a physical connector, but that doesn't mean the phone can configure itself to do it.
I broke a lot of hearts of people coming into a place I used to work at who just assumed they could buy a Micro USB to HDMI cable and plug a TV into any phone. A few phones did support that, but that doesn't mean they all do.
I'm wondering if anyone has had found a good direct-plug-in microphone to an USB-C (Galaxy, Pixel) Android phone, ideally a directional mic, but I would settle for omni. I'm not interested in lav mics, as I don't want to be tied to the subject. The Shure Motiv MV88 get amazing reviews, but it's not Android friendly without adaptors, which defeat the purpose.
Just use one of the XLR adapters with phantom power for mobile phones. Then take whatever Mic you like that is suitable
I've had good experiences with this XLR to phone adapter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007534LFK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've not used, but I have heard good things about the Rode VideoMic ME https://www.amazon.com/Rode-VideoMic-Directional-Microphone-Iphones/dp/B018KIJGU8
I have used this cheap mic on-camera, and it also comes with an adapter for smart phones: https://www.amazon.com/Movo-VXR10-Microphone-Windscreen-Smartphones/dp/B0723D3FVL/
EDIT: I know this doesn't help, but I use the Shure MV88 with my iPhone and it is awesome
I have AKG Lyra. It says it's supposed to work with Android, but I can't get it to work.
I plugged Lyra to my Android phone using usb-c cable. I can hear the direct monitor and output from phone, so it's getting power from phone.
However, I can't use it as input. Is there a setting I need to change from phone?
I recently updated a smartphone that I primarily use for recording videos. This brought this phone from Android 11 to Android 13 (I avoided updating the phone to prevent any issues with my recording setup).
With that update, the video recording app I was using no longer worked (Cinema FV-5). Trying to open it results in the app crashing and getting an error message saying the video driver can't be loaded (or something).
So when looking for an alternative, I came across Open Camera. The features offered in this app seem great so far, but the quality of the video recording seems worse than what I'm used to. A big example of this is the wood grain on my desk showing up in the viewfinder before I press the record button, but once I begin recording, all of that detail is lost.
The resulting footage just seems washed out (even with exposure set low) and I'm hoping there is another app out there that I can use to replace it.
So I was wondering if there is another video recording application out there that also supports audio input from an external microphone (USB-C microphone).
I bought a refurbished Pixel 2 XL (sans adapter) recently to shoot some video + interviews on. I've quicky realised onboard sound won't cut it.
Is the official USB-C to 3.5mm any good for this? (I have wired / rode / wireless 3.5mm microphones)
Unrelated question - I notice call recording is banned on Android P. If I root the phone, is it easy to configure it to allow call recording apps to function? (Previously I used ACR to record phone interviews).
Details
Phone: Xiaomi 11t pro / Realme gt2 pro
UI Version: Miui14 / RealmeUI 4.0
Android version: 13 / 13
Lav mic: Saramonic U3A
Headphones: Sony wh-1000xm4 / Bose NC 700
I've tried tings on both sets of phones and headphones
Situation
Intending to use the lav microphone to use instead of the bluetooth headphones' integrated microphone.
Both devices are connected on a phone at the same time, USB-C for the lav mic, bluetooth for the headphones.
When trying calls (Messenger, Whatsapp, regular cellphone calls) and using the "Headphones option", the person on the other end can hear the person talking through the lav mic, but the person talking on the lav mic cannot hear anything.
When using the "Bluetooth option" the lav microphone is completely out of the equation, and the bluetooth headphones are used as normal, for mic and audio.
Expected outcome
Using the lav microphone to talk and the bluetooth headphones to hear, all at the same time during a call.
Problem
I suspect the lav microphone is detected as a headphone+mic combo, since that's the logo that shows up in the notification bar and in calls. Of course it doesn't have speakers so there is no reason to get audio output through a microphone. I see no way to divert audio output to the bluetooth and still have a functioning lav mic at the same time.
Request
A way to use both the lav mic and bluetooth headphones, using software and/or hardware.
I'm aware I can instead use USB-C to 3.5mm jack and then split to another 3.5mm lav mic and the 3.5mm in the headphones, but I would like to use USB-C for the compatibility, minimize cables, and use the sound cancellation which is bluetooth only for the Sony.
Thank you!
Hey so I was wondering if anyone had good recommendations for mobile phone based on the spot recording.
Some shows are in the moment and it would be great to have the equipment to seize that moment.
I am looking for a way to sing karaoke using a charge 5 speaker. This speaker doesn't have a aux input jack so the only solution that I can come up with is getting a USB-C mic for android and play music from Spotify or YouTube at the same time with it. Are there any settings/apps that will make this possible?
I'm wanting to make videos for TikTok with a good studio microphone, my interface and mic doesn't have a Type C port. My interface may also not be mobile compatible so is there a good mic for a reasonable price that connects to a phone?
I have a high end Neumann microphone and was wondering if I could somehow connect it to my phone and use it as an alternative to the built-in microphone. It has an XLR port and is powered by an audio interface.
Alternatively, I'd be looking at using VOIP service if that isn't possible.
Hey there guys!
I am getting my pixel 3 next week. As the video audio is horrendous, are there any mics you guys recommend? Similar to the Rode Videomic ME-L but with USB C?
Cheers,
panda
I'm interested in this too!! Hear you can use the dongle and use a normal 3.5mm mic connector though too - just not sure which mic is best...
What a coincidence! We are designing a mic with USB C port as a solution for those phones without 3. 5mm audio jack.
Now we are testing the noise canceling function. We will launch it on Amazon not later than Dec. 22, 2018 if everything goes well!
