Hi r/thinkpad - I am having two separate issues with this particular USB-C dock:
(1) I have a T14 (Gen3) connected to this USB-C dock. Whenever I power cycle the T14 while connected to the dock, I end up a boot loop. I have isolated the issue to a USB port on the dock. This USB port is connected to a 4-port KVM switch (USB port shows up as a HID-compliant vendor-defined device). If I unplug this USB port, the boot process continues as normal
(2) I tried to update the firmware on the dock, but I get an error message as below:
ThinkPad USB-C Dock FW Utility v3.7.04 Package including(Audio:04-0E-99 BB:0.1.0.23 HX3:1.14.7.183 DK:1.3.40 DP:3.13.005) ====================================================================================== Date:01/06/2023 Time:13:25:32.371 Checking and updating the firmware in the Dock. Audio FW: 04-0E-99 Current Audio FW in the Dock is latest, no need to update. DP Hub FW: -1 Start to update DP Hub FW ... Update DP Hub FW Failed! Please power cycle the Dock to try again. Return code:-2
Thanks for any ideas on resolving the issues above.
Edit: Issue is solved now by downgrading BIOS on T14 to 1.07. Issue occurs only with T14 BIOS version 1.10. Hopefully someone from Lenovo will have this bug fixed. Edit: May 2025: Looks like T14 BIOS version 1.23 has fixed the issue!
Hello, my board has one USB header and I have a Lian li 3 port header splitter.
I am trying to update anything and no firmware will update. My K100 plugged directly to my board starts the update and then stops. I now have an update for my link hub and that does the same thing.
Is there any way to fix this? It's very annoying as I managed to update my K100 by using my laptop. I've tried uninstalling icue many times and every reinstall it persists.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
EDIT: using the updater package downloaded from Lenovo worked fine, thanks for the help
EDIT 2: I continued to experience issues with this Dock Firmware. My ultimate verdict is that the standalone "Dock Manager" taskbar software from Lenovo is not great, shouldn't be used unless necessary for your situation. I found out that it was the cause of the dock's instability / boot loop behaviour. Force stopping it stopped the issue immediately, and uninstalling it has given me smooth experience since then.
I was prompted to update the firmware of my dock (a 40AN Thunderbolt 3 Dock). I clicked yes and closed all applications but unfortunately was greeted with no UI, progress bar or scrolling status information. Nothing at all to show that an update was in place, outside of the below.
Dock Manager application says
Latest Release:
Firmware 3.1.8.2
Date released 2023-03-08
Status alternates between "Supported dock device is connected" and "No supported dock device connected" about every 5 seconds.
Task Manager shows the following process hovering around 22% CPU usage: "Thinkpad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen2_Workstatiom Firmware update tool (32 bit)"
No changes for 10+ minutes and no way to interact.
I was forced to just restart my laptop to break this loop- interrupting a firmware update is generally a very BAD thing to do so I'm pretty frustrated with this experience.
Luckily my machine restarted fine and is now showing the old, former Firmware version in Dock Manager (3.1.81). But at some point I'll need to try it again.
Has anyone updated successfully, was this a fluke or on my end somehow?
