You might try hooking it up through a USB-C On-the-Go (OtG) adapter to see if that allows the device to connect. Android “should” connect with a direct USB-C plug-in if the device (in your case the receiver) is USB audio Class Compliant. Things don’t always work, though. It would be helpful for diagnosing the problem if you could test the receiver with another host, like another android device, computer, or iOS device, to confirm the receiver is functional. r/fieldrecording on Reddit: Issues connecting USB-C mic to Android phone?
May 24, 2024 -

I'd like to think that I, as a 28 year old, am pretty solid with technology. Outside of VR, there's not a whole lot that's above my mental paygrade. But so help my ass, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get my 2021 Moto G Power to recognize my North Wireless Mic.

It really seemed as easy as plug the receiver into the USB-C port, pair the mic up to it, and you're good to go. For some reason, my phone just won't recognize it as a microphone. Like I plug the receiver in, and nothing changes. Is there a setting I'm missing, does the big standard Android camera app not recognize external mics? I'm really at a loss.

Why USB c microphone doesn't work on my phone? - Quora
Answer (1 of 2): USB connections always have a master end and a slave end. This used to be more obvious, with different connectors on the two ends of the cable. USB-C uses the same connector on both ends of the cable, but there’s still a master and a slave device for every USB connection.

Use a soft-bristled brush or a can of compressed air to clean the port. Try a different USB-C to USB adapter: If you're using a USB-C to USB adapter to connect the microphone to your phone, try using a different adapter.

external microphone to android connection problem - VideoHelp Forum
LG G6/V30 and higher have high res audio mics and recording software with manual gain, limiter, etc with compatibility with external usb-c connected mics, but at some point, even a $100 used h4n on a boom pole will get you there faster with less tweaking and headaches. 1. The same bad results. No application worked. With internal mic i have not such sound breaks. 2. A. All my cables are RODE officials (the extension and the sc4). So, I guess the external microphone is not compatible with android smartphones.

r/audio on Reddit: External mic not being picked up by android phone
January 28, 2023 -

I am trying to record a video on my smart phone. I bought a Movo VXR10 but anytime it is plugged in, I cannot get any sound to play.

I am using the proper TRS to TRRS adapter cable. I have also tried TRS to TRS just for fun.

All connections are seated tightly.

The mic does not use a battery.

I have tried the mic in a samsung galaxy and also an older sony Xperia compact. Neither of them produces sound when I shoot a video.

If I remove the external mic, the internal mic kicks in and I can record sounds.

I can find no settings in either of the two phones that allow you to switch mics or manipulate the mic output in any way. I'm not a genius at these setting menus but I have looked for about 45 minutes.

Does anyone have advice for how I can get this to work? Thanks!

Just to clarify my situation: Some phones have done away with 3.5mm jacks but many phones have them. A 3.5mm jack is where you would plug in headphones. Like the oldschool Sony walkman or the sound card on the back of older computers. Those soundcards have pink and green 3.5mm female ports. The pink is for a mic input and the green is for speaker output. Both of those ports use TRS, which is Tip-Ring-Sleeve and can only be used for one purpose. Smartphones have TRRS female ports which accept Tip, ring, ring, sleeve. That lets you plug headphones and/or a microphone in. In the case of gaming headphones, both (they have headphones and a speaker on the same 3.5mm plug. ) In my case I am trying to plug a microphone (TRS, since it only has one function) into a TRRS port. So I am using a TRS to TRRS adapter that came with the mic for this purpose. If you're curious here's a good breakdown: https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/understanding-trrs-and-audio-jacks/ The point is, I am 99.999% sure that all of the physical connections are accurate and securely plugged in. So my question is, what aside from cables or batteries would prevent an external mic from being recognized by a Samsung Galaxy or Sony Xperia android phone?

It seems that I cannot maintain a connection with my external usb c microphone anymore when it is plugged in.

I first noticed this in the stock camera app but also realised that the external mic will not work in apps like Instagram, Tiktok and capcut video editor.

I have restarted a few times and updated apps.

Will keep ya posted!

May 7, 2024 - Your mic is typically a small hole beside the USB-C port at the bottom of your phone. Grab a small pin, thin needle, or similar, and use it to gently clean your mic. The other alternative is to blow directly at it to remove all the built-up debris.

May 14, 2020 - So, when you plug in anything other than a headphone, it doesn’t indicate that the microphone is plugged in, rather it indicates that a headphone is plugged in, usually at the top of the screen. Again, this is true about all smartphones. Some Android smartphones that require a Type C USB to 3.5mm jack Adapter (without a headphone jack) may not indicate that something is connected to the phone.

March 31, 2020 - In order to connect the standard USB Type-A cable to the phone, the standard Samsung OTG adapter worked as you’d expect. USB-C hubs or low-quality OTG adapters may not be as reliable. We also tried the microphone with the Cinema FV-5 application. We had no issue using it after changing the app’s audio source to “external” microphone. With more and more flagship Android phones dropping the headphone jack, it hopefully won’t be long until we see universal OS-level USB microphone support in Android.

April 5, 2023 -

I bought an external microphone a few days ago for better sound quality when recording videos, but I can't get the audio to come through on my phone.

When I plug it in and turn on the video, no audio gets recorded

I have a Rhode lavaliere go, and a 3.5mm to USB-c adapter. Initially I thought it might be the adapter so I picked up a new one and I still have issues. Now my phone recognizes there's an external microphone and I can switch the audio input to wired microphone, but I still don't hear any audio on playback.

I tried plugging the microphone into my computer and recording from there and it records just fine, so it's not a bad microphone. I just don't know what to do anymore, I've had other external lapel microphones and they have worked without a hitch

It requires Plug-In Power . From the Lavalier GO product page: Powered from plug-in power TRS socket (2.7V) Probably what's happening is that your computer supplies power (which is common on desktop computers), but the adapter you got for your phone doesn't. So, look for an adapter that supplies this kind of power. Coincidentally, a similar question came up recently, and someone linked this audio interface also from RØDE: AI-Micro . This should do what you need, although it might be slight overkill. It has two mic inputs and costs the same amount as the mic. But it would be a safe choice. You may be able to find an adapter that is cheaper and supplies plug-in power, though. There's the Audio-Technica ATR2x-USB ($25 at amazon and at B&H ), but some reviews mention drawbacks like low mic volume or so-so build quality.
