Hi All,

I have been struggling to resolve this problem for long time as well!!

But I am able to fix it by following a method that I saw online. I unplug everything from my laptop and leave it alone. Then long press the power button for 40 seconds, have to be exactly 40 seconds! Then turn on the laptop and connect all cable, HDMI/USBC wire.

It works well now! I am about to connect two monitors at the same time !

You need to make sure that the USB-C card you purchased supports the protocols used by the dock. USB-C is a port shape, and there are multiple protocols that may run over that port.

Solved: USB-C won't recognise any external monitor. - HP Support Community - 8962984
January 11, 2024 - Update: I made this post to help others; I've already fixed the issue: The issue is a fault with the latest BIOS (1.15.00) Released on December 5th 2023 - As we have multiple units of this model number I was able to test on a working unit - Unit connected fine to external displays; Update to BIOS 1.15.00 immediately stopped any connection to external monitors over USB-C. To solve the issue I got hold of a rollback BIOS version (1.14.00) and applied it - After several restarts (Windows asks for three restarts once you sign in) connections to External Displays immediately worked again. I also noticed that you need to update all drivers and then apply the 1.14.00 BIOS (When applying the 1.14.00 BIOS on a unit that didn't have up to date drivers the functionality remained broken however updating all other drivers allowed the fix to be successful.

Dear Greg,

We are having the same issue with the recent Microsoft update deployed on the 14th of October. After the update was done, some users using Lenovo laptops with USB type-c Lenovo docking station extended screen displays stopped functioning until they rebooted and it work, but we have a handful number of users in multiple locations with different Lenovo laptops using "Sitecom" generic docking stations with the screens showing not active. We have done multiple steps from, uninstalling/reinstallation of updates, driver, display software, and we even took it a step forward by doing a factory reset and the issue was not resolved. So far - I have asked one user to try and use the Lenovo docking station, waiting for feedback. Not sure if this additional info can assist in resolving this issue.

Hi MN. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

  1. Try these fixes for USB C Displayport not working:

https://windowsreport.com/usb-c-displayport-cab...

(Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially DO NOT INSTALL Restoro, PC Repair Tool and Reimage ads)

https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/usb-c-t...

https://techcult.com/fix-windows-10-displayport...

https://helpdeskgeek.com/help-desk/no-displaypo...

  1. The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or installing in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3, USBC and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then try these same steps for the USB-C drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

Check for a monitor driver by expediting Windows Updates (including Optional Updates) in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates to install all Updates until no more are offered.

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

r/HPOmen on Reddit: USB-C not working with external monitor
March 7, 2023 -

Hello
I have an HP Omen 16, which I've used since october 2022 with an external USB-C dock to provide a VGA port and connect an external monitor. Worked like a charm till this morning, when I plug it in and - surprise - no signal, monitor going to sleep etc.

Tried pretty much everything: NVIDIA drivers update, BIOS update, restart computer, hold down power button for 50 seconds when the laptop was off, etc. - Nothing works. The docks is somewhat "recognised" (i.e., the USB ports on, it they work), but there is no way to make the VGA port work, nor the other HDMI port.

Obviously the first thought was "ok the dock is broken" so I tried another one with an HDMI port - nothing (both docks are working on other laptop).

TO me it seems pretty clear that the USB-C port - which was previously working with external monitor - is not providing video feed to the external monitor. Please note: no windows/drivers update occurred overnight.

What can I try? I am desperate, I really need to use that configuration.
