Dwarf 3 - purchased a used one, things to know.... - Smart Telescopes - Cloudy Nights
May 2, 2025 - I purchased a used Dwarf 3 recently. it will be arriving shortly and I am wondering if there are things I should check on it to make sure it is a good unit. I am familiar with Astronomy via my 8in Dob and also familiar with photography. But these smart telescopes are a "new" concept to me, so won...

Dwarf 3 Review: A $600 Smart Telescope for Astrophotography Beginners - CNET
May 22, 2025 - I spent two months testing the Dwarf 3 smart telescope, and it changed my perspective of astrophotography. John Carlsen/CNET · Photography is one of my most consistent creative practices, and I've dabbled in astrophotography, which is photography of stars, planets, moons and other celestial objects in the night sky. I've used my cameras for astrophotography with varying levels of success, but the main issue I have faced is a total lack of tools to track the motion of stars during long exposures.

Review: Dwarf Lab's New Dwarf 3 Smartscope - Universe Today
June 13, 2025 - DwarfLab's new Dwarf 3 smartscope packs a powerful punch in a small unit. In the past decade, amateur astronomy has witnessed nothing short of a revolution, as smartscopes have come to the fore. In half a century of skywatching, we've used just about every iteration of GoTo system available, ...

February 26, 2026 - Remember that with the DWARF 2, at least when I had it, you had to use a straw to polar align. With the DWARF 3, EQ Mode can be achieved in just a couple of minutes and it’s honestly very easy. With EQ mode activated, you can shoot 60 second exposures and not be limited to 15 seconds max. The Veil Nebula below was taken using 60 second exposures, and as you can see, the stars are round and pinpoint thanks to EQ mode. ... Dwarf 3 Telescope: test / review
June 21, 2024 - The Dwarf has a wider field and can therefore observe elements in a broader context, while the Seestar can go deeper and also observe dark objects. They both have their pros and cons. I tend to use the Seestar because the app is better and the Seestar offers more flexibility with orientation. ... Hello Laurent, I have read your reviews about the Dwarf III and the Seastar S50.

Review of Dwarf 2 and Dwarf 3
August 15, 2025 - Most of what I’ve written so far in relation to using the Dwarf 2 essentially applies to the Dwarf 3. However, now that I’ve had time to put the Dwarf 3 through its paces for astro targets, there is no doubt that the enhanced features do make a significant difference to both the user experience and results.

Dwarf 3 Smart Telescope Review + Tutorial – Wido's AstroForum
The Dwarf 3 flawlessly located and centered each target, impressively performing despite a minor hiccup with EQ mode. The 10,000 milliampere-hour battery lasted throughout the night and, if needed, can be recharged while the telescope is powered on and in use.

February 23, 2026 - Connecting my phone to the Dwarf 3 took about one minute, and after that, I downloaded the latest firmware, which again took a couple of minutes. My first target was the Sun. I wanted to see if there were any sunspots following recent aurora activity. I put on the included solar filter and used the app to move the camera to my target.

March 9, 2026 - Before heading out to put the Dwarf 3 to the test, I followed the instructions on the start up guide and downloaded the Dwarf Lab app. This turned out to be a great idea because the app interface isn’t nearly as neat as the packaging, and many of the functions are hidden within other menus. I also used this time to connect my smartphone to the Dwarf 3, explore the basic controls, check for updates, and troubleshoot any potential issues.

I took the awesome Dwarf III smart telescope on vacation and captured some of my favorite space photos ever
The Dwarflabs Dwarf III smart telescope is a mini marvel. My first astrophotography set-up 10 years ago weighed more than 20kg / 44lbs – but this excellent little self-contained device comes in at a mere 1.3kg / 2.8lbs and is small enough to fit in airline carry-on luggage. r/DWARFLAB on Reddit: Debating between Dwarf 3 and Dwarf Mini for Astrophotography and Birding
December 22, 2025 -
Both look great. The Dwarf 3 stands out because of the ability to track birds and shoot in 4k. The Dwarf Mini seems great because of its weight (possibly for backpacking) and cheaper price. For those of you who bird and use one of these scopes, how do you like it? Is one a clear winner?

I have done some testing with birding, since i'm working on field of ecology. D3 has very crisp video and is excellent for birding if you use it in manual/general mode. Bird tracking is not reliable and is very much a work in progress (if they are planning to put time and effort into it). I have been in touch with them and written a small review of what i think should be improved. If you are planning to use the general photo/video mode for birding then i think both devices work great. Main difference is the resoluton, 4k vs 1080p and that mini has a longer focal length (1016 vs 737 in 35mm sensor eqiv).

Dwarf 3 Review: Is This Tiny Telescope A Genuine Wonder?
February 1, 2025 - Sometimes it would take repeated attempts to connect to the telescope, at other times the connection dropped, even when stood within a meter of the Dwarf 3. That’s not ideal when you’re taking multiple exposures that might take 30 mins or more to complete. The app itself could also be more friendly – it’s certainly not as easy to use as the one that came with the Odyssey Pro.
