Send a picture and I’ll tell you what’s wrong. if I’m to be honest the camera is probably fine and you’re messing up something. Cameras are not phones, phones do all the adjustments and settings for you, cameras do only what you tell them to do, so you’re probably not getting the best out of it. More on reddit.com

Just got a used Z30 and i took a few night shots. The image quality looks horrendous. So much noise and there is not much detail when you zoom in. I am using the kit lens and I am a beginner so idk if I am missing something here. I have the picture quality set to fine JPEG. Am I missing something? I don't think it shooting manual would make that huge of a difference to image quality right especially on such a beginner camera?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

There's no such thing as a beginner camera, they all work the same. I'm guessing you're shooting with auto-iso and since you're shooting at night, your camera set the ISO to some crazy high number. That will have the result you describe, high noise, no closeup detail. You need to know how your camera works. Don't expect to shoot auto and get perfect photos every time. If you want to shoot in more automated modes, you do need to learn how to shoot manual first. You may need a faster lens to shoot in low light, but first learn how to use your camera properly, and learn with good lighting conditions before go shooting at night. Photography is about light and the least light you have, the harder it gets.
