What does a UPS tracking number look like?
When you ship a package with UPS, you’ll receive a tracking number that helps you follow its progress. This number is provided by UPS or the sender and is required to check the delivery status.
Common UPS tracking number formats:
- 1Z999AA10193716784 — The most common format, starting with "1Z" followed by 16 characters.
- T9999999999 — Used for specific package types.
- 999999999999 — A 12-digit number often used for domestic shipments.
- 999999999 — A shorter 9-digit format used in select cases.
Other specialized formats include:
- PRO numbers for freight shipments
- House Air Waybill for air cargo
- House Bill of Lading for ocean freight
- Delivery Order/Sub-PRO numbers for LTL and TL child shipments
You may also encounter reference numbers like the UPS Delivery Notice (12-digit barcode on a missed delivery slip) or a Service Notice, both used to track or reschedule delivery.
