So I'm shipping a big box from USA to Switzerland. I went to Uhaul and purchased a 24x18x24 box, got everything in it and packed up. To calculate shipping I weigh it and take measurements. Box ended up being 24x18x25 (technically 24 1/2"). When I click to calculate shipping I am shocked to see USPS is not in the list. UPS only option and wants to charge $340 for the honor of shipping this 18 pound package. I got back to input and type in 24x18x24 and see that now USPS is listed and is asking $108 to ship USPS international priority. So I learned something new today, USPS has a limit of no more than 24" for any dimension on international packages.
My question is this, does the board think USPS will reject my package if I buy postage online and drop it off? Does that extra 1/2" on one side really kill the deal? If package is rejected, can I get a refund on that $108 postage? Should I wait in line and ask a clerk if package will get rejected? I can go to the trouble of repacking everything into two small boxes, but then cost of shipping them will be more like $140
