My husband and I shipped a package to Ireland on March 19th. We hadn't gotten an update since March 27th saying it was in transit. This morning we got an update that it's just departed the location it was last in. I guess it's been sitting in Chicago for almost 3 weeks. Answer from hulajbear on reddit.com

We'll get it to the international service center a few days after the shipper gets it to us. After that, it's up to customs on both ends and the destinating country.

Was it sent to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, France, Netherlands, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, Switzerland, Israel or Brazil? Those are the only destinations that will do the online tracking updates. Generally speaking, once it’s out of the US the tracking update reliability goes down, even if it’s to one of those destinations. More on reddit.com
Use USPS for international shipping?
It's definitely the cheapest option. If you are shipping something uber valuable on a corporate account, consider DHL or another shipping service, but the average consumer would be well served by USPS> More on reddit.com

I've never received anything overseas so I'm not sure. My package said "International item has left originating country and is en route to Canada" on July 22 at 8 AM local time from Netherlands.
How many business days would it take to get it delivered after the plane lands? I'm around the GTA and it was sent via standard shipping.
Is there a central hub for international mail/package arrival? Or is it just sent to some sorting facility based on province the same way Canada-Canada deliveries work?
UPDATE: Was received on July 26.

If standard means surface, it could take 2-3 months because it goes by ship. If you mean air, 2-3 weeks. Whenever it does arrive, it will need to go through customs, which can take up to 2 weeks right now. After it leaves customs, it will be directed to the largest sorting facility in the region, and then will continue on to the main one in your province (sometimes this is the same facility, sometimes not), and then likely your local sorting facility before being delivered.
