I haven't used the Dyson Stick, but earlier in the year I bought the Dyson Animal ball vacuum when it was on sale at Costco. I HATED it and returned it a week later and bought the Shark Lift-Away. I love the Shark! In my opinion, Dyson is overpriced junk. More on reddit.com

Do I need to spend $350+ to get a good Vacuum? I'm using a super old vacuum (which my ex flatmate left when moving out) which I suspect is adding dirt instead of removing it :(

I've had them all, Kirby and Miele bags, Dyson ball, and now the Dyson v10 animal. The v10 is just the easiest. Sure you're probably not doing as great of a job HEPA filtering as you would with a a bag, but it's just so convenient.

How about Sharks? I don't buy expensive vacuums anymore, because no matter how good they are, they've always needed replacing after a couple of years. Either they lose suction, or they suck something up that pokes a hole in the ducting, or some essential accessory (like a filter or a bag) gets discontinued, ... So for vacuums, I just get the best cheap one I can find. :D

Hey folks. My old vacuum is now super old, noisy, and has always kind of sucked (hah), so I was looking to upgrade and I see that a number of models go on sale in November.
Looks like the:
Shark Performance Plus Lift-Away Upright Vacuum with Odor Neutralizer ($220)
Shark Performance Ultralight Corded Stick Vacuum with DuoClean ($140)
Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean Extra Cordless Stick Vacuum ($500)
For reference, I'm in a 1400 sq ft house with mostly faux wood panel floors, and 2 small dogs. They don't shed a ton but do persistently.
I've never used a stick before, so I'm mostly wondering if I should stay with the upright if it's better for the dog hair and if not, whether the Dyson is worth the much higher price tag.
EDIT: I can't respond to every comment but I wanted to say thank you for all the valuable feedback, this is great stuff! Love this sub.

I have a different Shark lift-away, and really like it. We had a Dyson for many years, and didn't buy another when it died, because the new versions seemed much worse than what we had. IMO that Dyson at $500 is overpriced.
