Here’s how much Valve pays its staff — and how few people it employs
“Hardware,” to my surprise, has been a relatively small part of the company, with just 41 employees paid a gross of more than $17 million in 2021. Would be interesting to have numbers from other companies like Nintendo and MS to see how many people work on designing their consoles. Valve’s small staff is also something that’s been a sticking point for Wolfire. When it filed its lawsuit in 2021, Wolfire alleged that Valve “...devotes a miniscule percentage of its revenue to maintaining and improving the Steam Store.” And yet they constantly improve it. In 2018 a group of Valve staff tried to figure out just how efficient they were being—and found they were making more money per head than Apple, Facebook, and nearly every tech giant out there
when you factor in the thousands, if not tens of thousands, of menial jobs at those companies compared to the ~350 people total at valve, especially considering how much of a money printing factory it is, is this really that surprising? More on reddit.com

Microsoft estimated Valve’s revenue in 2021 at $6.5bn Interesting to see another view on the scale of Valve’s business
Very impressive that a private company made that list. I really hope Gabe lives a long life and/or he has a solid successor lined up that shares his same vision/values. I'd assume this would be one of his kids so I think we're good there. More on reddit.com
