Lifepath iShares Retirement vs. Vanguard Target Retirement Income... - Bogleheads.org

I've landed on Lifepath iShares Retirement (IRTR) vs. Vanguard Target Retirement Income Fund (VTINX). The iShares funds were re-introduced in late 2023 as the series was shut down a few years ... They track the same index, so they will perform basically the same. It’s like asking what tastes better: Coke or Pepsi? I prefer Vanguard because I don’t like blackrock as a company More on reddit.com

Vanguard vs iShares: Which ETF Provider should you choose?
October 6, 2025 - Vanguard: Known for its low-cost structure, which helps minimize the tracking difference. iShares: Has a broader variety of ETFs, including synthetic and optimized strategies, which may cause slightly higher tracking differences in some cases.

Vanguard vs. iShares by BlackRock
October 1, 2024 - Since we use both Vanguard and iShares by BlackRock Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) extensively, one of my pleasures over the last few years has been seeing each company try to outdo the other by lowering costs. As they continue to lower costs, they gather more and more investments.

Vanguard ETF Shares are not redeemable with the issuing Fund other than in very large aggregations worth millions of dollars. Instead, investors must buy and sell Vanguard ETF Shares in the secondary market and hold those shares in a brokerage account.

iShares Core Allocation ETFs vs. Vanguard’s LifeStrategy Funds — Oblivious Investor
February 24, 2025 - As far as differences, first and most obviously, they’re ETFs rather than traditional mutual funds. That means you can get commission-free access to the iShares Core Allocation funds at most brokerage firms, whereas generally you must have an account with Vanguard in order to buy the LifeStrategy funds without paying a commission.

My challenge is that IRTR has total assets of about $15.4 million and the Vanguard fund has $35.2 billion. Clearly, the Vanguard fund isn't going to be shut down anytime soon. The iShares fund was launched in late 2023 and seems to have attracted barely any assets at all.
