I'm assuming you transferred the plate instead of getting a new one. In that case the car will continue to have the same registration until you get both a new vehicle and new plate. My tabs are for my grandma's birthday, I bought her car when I turned 16. I have had 3 new vehicles since then and a new plate when mine aged out. Hi all, I moved from California to Michigan for school and brought my car over from my parents' house in Cali after winter cleared up, and yes I have a Michigan license now. How should I go about registering it?I tried looking through the "Application for Michigan Vehicle Title" form but it seems to be something used for buying out of state cars, not bringing already owned cars into Michigan.
If I have to use it, what am I supposed to put for "Transaction Type" I can't say purchase or loan because I already own the car.

If you have the title, just make an appointment and go to a Secretary of Sate office and take your title, license and proof of insurance with you. If you don’t have the title, apply for a replacement in the state you moved here from.

Question: I purchased a car from my father last year. Transferred the title. Got insurance. Everything taken care of regarding Secretary of State.
I noticed that the registration for the car is still based on his birthday. Not mine. I had received a renewal notice months earlier from my birthday (for his birthday).
Is this common? All the paperwork was filled out properly in person during the transfer. I assumed the car registration should always be based around my birthday.
Is it different when purchasing a car from a previous owner? Is this something unique to Michigan? All info I've read says birthday is to be the registration renewal date.
