I want to heat my small cabin, 225 sq. Ft.. I've been researching dynaglo heaters, and think 30000 btus will be sufficient. I'm interested in anyone's experiences with this type of heater. And specifically what sizes of tanks of lp gas can be hooked up? Can Diy installation? Pros and cons? Thanks fir any help!

I've used a 20k Mr. Heater blue flame heater in my 350sf cabin for years. I've never had condensation or mold issues. I use a couple damprid buckets just to be sure, and I have a CO detector. I run 2 40#/10gal propane tanks that supply the heater, water heater, and stove. There's an RV automatic changeover thingy on the tanks so I never run out at night. Everyone else telling you that you can't run a ventless blue flame heater most likely has never actually tried it, just repeating the reddit hive mind info. I'm telling you from lengthy experience that you'll be fine. And for reference, I'm in a cold climate northern state with average winter temps in the 20s, with periodic dips as low as -20 for a week or two at a time.

Hello Everyone I have an off grid cabin in upstate New York and read so much great info here I thought I’d ask for some advice.
I would like to install one of those Martin direct vent heaters to heat the cabin for short stays mainly in the fall and possible early winter. The cabin is 10x16 and is insulated with fiberglass insulation in the floor joist, walls and roof. Martin makes an 11k and 20k BTU model, which size do you think is appropriate? Also anyone who has used them who can share their experience with propane usage would be appreciated. (I have used different BTU calculators the results are all over the place).

For cabins, I always suggest going oversized. Its not about maintaining a temp, it is about getting you up to temp when you arrive at 9pm and just want to crawl in bed. Those extra btu's can be the difference between going to bed at 30° and 50°. Or the difference between waking up to a warm room or still seeing your breath. Alternatively, some supplemental heat when you arrive in the form of turning on your stovetop, or a tank top burner. But keep in mind. In a small cabin like that, one quick door opening will introduce a lot of cold air to a small place. Its nice to have the btu's to counter that.

I have a Williams vented 14k BTU in an 8x20 shipping container insulated with spray foam. Output has been sufficient through 10° F nights. I haven’t had lower temps to test it further. Of course your mileage may vary based on tightness and total R value of your cabin, as well as the temperature differential between outside and inside.
