How do I connect my monitor cable to my Dell Optiplex 9020
Can a VGA cable be used with modern monitors?
When would I need a Dell Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
What is the correct way to connect a VGA cable to a monitor?

guys my cousin has an old Dell E2417H Monitor and it shows "No VGA Cable The display will go into power save mode in 4 minutes" everytime he starts the computer but after a minute or 2 the computer boots up and shows the display. but i used the same monitor for my ps4 using a converter, i have all the steps correct but it shows the same message on the screen and goes pitch black after the 4 minutes countdown ends. can someone please assist me on the problem, i have no technical knowledge about anything, just the fact that i used to run my ps4 smoothly on the same screen a few months back. any guidance will be appreciated.
I just got a Optiplex 7050 SFF Desktop PC and Dell Monitor. I had to order a VGA cord and got one with 15 pins instead of 9. I need a male with 15 pins to female with 9 but I can’t find one online. Should I get an adapter instead? I’m the most tech illiterate gen Z so sorry if this is really dumb.
Does the connector in your expansion slot look like one of these (aside from color):
No, unfortunately my monitor doesn't have different input options.
But thank you for steering me towards the expansion ports. I'm
hoping this might be the solution.
Turns out the top expansion port has been replaced with something
else. But it doesn't look like the HDMI example you referenced.
On this replaced expansion port I see a white device that I've never
seen before. It has 3 horizontal rows each with 8 small holes. I'm hoping
this white plug with the 24 holes will accept an adapter which will work
with my vga cable.
IT will take a little time to track it down and put it together but I will let
you know if it works.
And again, thank you for your help,
Joseph
