Would a VGA to HDMI cable work?
HDMI to VGA Active Adapter
I bought an vga to hdmi adaptor and it won't work
Hdmi to vga adapter problem
I'm pretty sure that most modern video cards no longer support passive HDMI to VGA, and you'd need an active HDMI to VGA converter.
Without knowing which exact adapter you have, I'd say it was the problem (though that does look a bit like an active adapter...)
Most old monitors that only have VGA are pretty obsolete, which may be fine at 1080p, but with a 2060 I assume you're trying for either a higher refresh rate or resolution - both of which are not supported by VGA (think it caps at 1080p/70hz).
More on reddit.comHi, I'm realy sorry if this sounds really dumb 😅 I recently got an issue with my gaming computer and had to resort to an old computer made in the early 2010s I had around.
I work from home so although I'm sad I can't really game anymore, it's a lifesaver! Only issue is, it doesn't have an HDMI port. It's a probook HP, I researched it to make sure lol. However, there is this port I will show in picture 1 that seems to be to plug a monitor in, which I really want to do.
From what I can gather just from the looks of it, it's a VGA port? The only thing that confuses me is there isn't two screws on the side of it or any hole to be screwed. I'll show a picture of the cable I want to buy in pic 2. Can you confirm to me wether the cable I intend to buy will work? I'm so tired of working on only 1 monitor lol.
If you think I need something else please specify. It would be greatly appreciated:)
I just got a 1772e Emerex monitor with a built-in VGA cable (pic is from using an old HP tower with a VGA out port). I've been looking through threads and at sites all day trying to find an adapter for HDMI to VGA (preferably male-to-female for simplicity) but everything is either out of stock, a cheap passive cable, can only do 60hz, or $300. Does anyone know of a decent active adapter that can do 1024 x 768 at 85 hz, nothing crazy, just so I can play from my laptop on this monitor? If anything else can I use an HDMI to Displayport adapter and then a Displayport to VGA adapter without problems?
