yes, there is a difference. because of male/female connectors. the GPU has a female HDMI and DP port, so the adapter needs a male HDMI plug. in the same way, your monitor cable will have a male plug, so the adapter needs the female plug. I think what you need is a HDMI to VGA adapter. because the signal comes FROM HDMI and has to go TO VGA. then it should be compatible. the other way around would be wrong, because then you end up with the plugs switched up. Hi, I'm realy sorry if this sounds really dumb 😅 I recently got an issue with my gaming computer and had to resort to an old computer made in the early 2010s I had around.
I work from home so although I'm sad I can't really game anymore, it's a lifesaver! Only issue is, it doesn't have an HDMI port. It's a probook HP, I researched it to make sure lol. However, there is this port I will show in picture 1 that seems to be to plug a monitor in, which I really want to do.
From what I can gather just from the looks of it, it's a VGA port? The only thing that confuses me is there isn't two screws on the side of it or any hole to be screwed. I'll show a picture of the cable I want to buy in pic 2. Can you confirm to me wether the cable I intend to buy will work? I'm so tired of working on only 1 monitor lol.
If you think I need something else please specify. It would be greatly appreciated:)
