I wouldn't be nailing or screwing anything to an antique bed for fear of damaging it. I would get rid of the slats and the split box spring and just drop a full, properly sized box spring in place, put my mattress on top of that and call it a day. More on reddit.com

July 18, 2022Eastlake(?)-style Victorian bed I got on FB Marketplace for $100. I can hardly believe it's mine.
Apparently the seller's great-grandmother bought it secondhand in Islington, Massachusetts c. 1940s, and they've had it ever since. The photos on the listing weren't the clearest so I bought it assuming it was a standard, if somewhat ornamented, middle-class Victorian bed. Not exceptional, but pretty, and I just lost most of my belongings in a housefire. So even having something mildly nice and old would be a huge comfort. I did NOT assume there would be burled walnut inlay. Or carved details with further carved details on top. Or little column designs on the footboard. Or- though they're not visible in the pics -ornamented side panels. it's in good shape and well-cared-for, too. So my big question is: who the HELL lets this kind of thing go for $100? (Definitely went through "is this bed haunted?" and subsequently "would I CARE if this bed were haunted?" in my mind, haha.) More on reddit.com
