r/podcasting on Reddit: Video & Podcast Equipment for Starting Out
September 23, 2024 -
I am wanting to start a two-person podcast that will have video for YouTube and social media. What are affordable equipment setups that are affordable?
For context, we want both hosts to have a mic on a stand, and three camera(one for each host and one capturing both hosts.
What setup and equipment would you recommend?
What is a reasonable budget for both sound and video quality? Just equipment, not software.

More on reddit.comWhat do I need (software, cameras etc) to start a simple video podcast?
Ok heres my thoughts First scrap the blue yeti Get 2 mics and a interface. Now camera wise, You will need 3 cams for 2 people. Center view. One on host. And another on co-host. I saw a suggestion for a camera view switcher, now the problem with that is you need a 3rd person to operate it. So keep man power in mind There are some programs that automatically switch views but I never used one. You also need to assess your recording space, do you need noise reduction. From there, you can decide if you need a dynamic or condenser mic. I use a SM58 as my conditions are Not ideal. Dynamic are better when you have poor conditions in my view but they do not look cool. As for recording programs. You have to decide what you want to use to edit. Down load some free trials. On top of that, you need to figure out lighting. I am Ep 10 into my cast, still figuring and working things out. My best advice is you can’t start out perfect, just start recording Especially you don’t know if your podcast will take off. Beginner Podcast Setup Advice
Opinion: Stay away from the Neewer stuff. I find it is cheaply made (boom arms etc) and will not last. u/chasingorange has good suggestions. I would avoid USB mics entirely since you already know you are bringing in another mic. My suggestions for solid beginner stuff.-- all onAmazon Behringer 1800S Mics (3 pack for $48) Any boom arm will work, just make sure it has some heft Cables and pop filters -- figure about $20 per mic. Get longer than you need and I am a fan of spending money on good cables Interface -- The Steinerg is great. Also look at a Focusrite Scarlett about the same $ You will be running USB out of the interface to your computer. You can use Audacity to record (it is free and some people hate it, but it does the trick and is pretty robust with a few drawbacks--but no sense spending $ on software to edit if you are not sure yo are going long term with this) I'd also buy a spare cable or two and have a few extra pop filters or foam filters--they go bad, get lost, etc and are not too expensive, but will save the day in a pinch. November 26, 2025 - Here’s what we’d recommend for a beginner video podcasting kit: ... Don’t forget a good set of headphones. You want a pair of high-quality headphones to hear your playback and what you are recording. They also happen to help stop your mic from picking up any unwanted echo from your computer. Any noise-canceling, wired-in headphones will do but some choices we recommend are the Audio-Technica ATH-M20X, and Sennheiser HD280Pro. Well, it goes without saying, you’ll need good podcast camera equipment cameras if you’re producing a video version of your show.

Podcast Equipment Guide: What I Recommend After 500 Episodes
One of my setups included an SM7B, a Cloudlifter, and a Scarlett 2i2 interface. While they're all good equipment, I was constantly troubleshooting hums, buzzes, and background noise because the setup was overly complicated. These two stories, along with dozens of others, cause me to look for specific things in my podcast gear:
