Processing Videos in Python with OpenCV | D-Lab
November 28, 2023 - I am using a video from a camera ... this video is called “beetle_flight.avi”. We can use cv2.VideoCapture() function to create an object that represents the video in Python and work with the video file....
A python library for processing/editing videos?
Besides the libraries that were mentioned, ffmpeg is the (sort of) only stuff used to render videos or getting all frames from video that runs under the hood of almost every video editor program with very few exceptions (usually paid software). That being said, if you want to do things from grounds up, you have the option to edit images with python and render (and get the frames to begin with) using ffmpeg. By no means I'm saying this is the most sane or even the correct solution. It is just for fun and to shower you with another option to juggle (yes, I'm evil!, hahaha!) More on reddit.com

I made an introduction to Video Processing with Python and OpenCV
Your videos are fantastic. I love how you break down topics into their basic components and then work your way back up. I would be really interested in seeing a video where you just informally talk about your methodologies when diving into a data set and looking for insights. For example, I work with a lot of user usage data and I feel comfortable manipulating, cleaning, and visualizing data. But I would like to improve when it comes to some of the next level analysis. Deciding on PQLs, segmenting customers based on product usage, identifying early churn indicators, etc. These questions will vary on a case-by-case basis, but a couple examples to get the ball rolling could include... Where do you like to start your analysis when looking at a new data set? And for multiple datasets when some of the information is related and some is not How you decide what is relevant (both statistically and for telling a story)? How do you recognize the sunk cost fallacy and stop your current train of thought to go down a more productive path? How do you avoid your own personal biases and assumptions about the data you are working with? Any other tips and advice you have about your process More on reddit.com
How We Boosted Video Processing Speed 5x by Optimizing GPU Usage in Python
We have a similar issue at work. Our solution was to shell out to FFmpeg, decode/crop/resize/re-encode the whole video with the GPU (outside of Python), then load the resulting video normally. I expect you'd get better performance overall that way. More on reddit.com

In this post, we will use FFmpeg to join multiple video files. To install FFmpeg, use the following apt-get command: Let’s import the required Python libraries. ... subprocess: to start new processes, connect to their input/output/error pipes, and obtain their return codes.

Native video processing in Python - Bruno C. Vellutini
March 6, 2025 - moviepy: Still maintained, but seems more focused on video editing and manipulation than video processing (scaling/converting formats). opencv-python: Looks super-advanced, perhaps too much for what we need. PyAV: Another wrapper around FFmpeg, but the bindings look great to get and access video information.

October 15, 2024 - We will first capture the video from the given directory using the VideoCapture() function, and then we’ll extract frames from the video and save them as an image using the imwrite() function. Let’s code it: Once this process is complete, ‘Done!’ will be printed on the screen as confirmation that the frames have been created.

August 17, 2021 - Be warned though that since this is based on machine learning, the results will never be 100% accurate. You will get good enough results in most cases, but occasionally the algorithm will identify incorrect objects as faces. So what if you want to use a webcam? OpenCV grabs each frame from the webcam and you can then detect faces by processing each frame.
