I'm of the opinion that aftermarket alarm systems are not worth it at all to begin with. I have personally removed one Viper setup (in my 1998 Impreza) and had a mechanic remove another Viper (in my 2000 Tahoe) that was randomly chirping for no reason. My buddy had one fail on his Accord and he could then only start his car by bridging the starter pins with a screwdriver. Was a total bitch to fix the wiring harness that was hacked up for the install on that Accord when he got around to removing it. I'm not gonna go fight with someone that is breaking into my car, and none of my neighbors are either... The alarm going off isn't going to stop a smash and grab regardless of where it's parked, so what's the point in having it? I'd much rather spend $5 on a switch, wire it into the fuel pump, and then hide said switch somewhere conspicuous to keep someone from stealing the car. Can also throw a club on the steering wheel for an added layer of protection that doesn't drain the battery if it sits for more than 4 days. More on reddit.com

Edit : my car is an 04 Lexus IS300
Local shop said 550 for the system with install. This would just be the regular car alarm and remote start, locking the car and unlocking it and truck opening without key.
However the shop isn’t “certified” by viper on their site. Anything to be worried about?

We need to know what features you're asking them to do. There's literally hundreds of little add-ons and things you can trip with the AUX channels. We'd need to know exactly what they're doing to be able to tell you anything with that quote. However I would highly encourage you to stick to only authorized Viper dealers. Lastly, the 5706V is beginning to get kind of dated. The majority of the industry has moved onto just using the Viper DS4.
