clangd is far superior to any of the Microsoft c++ tools. From my experience clangd just works better and actually is able to integrate with tools on my machine

Think of it as a place to live. IDLE is like your college dorm. It's cheap, it's there, it comes bundled with what you're using. But you're limited, you can't really repaint the walls (no dark mode, no extensions), and if you want to bring your friends over (deal with non .py files like yaml or json), you're gonna have a very hard time. Others in this thread are suggesting PyCharm: this one is like a 30-room mansion. There's a bajillion features, most of which you don't need right now, some you won't even touch after a year, but you can really get going once you do figure it out (ive been here for a year and the debugger still confuses me). You'll get lost, overwhelmed, annoyed, and you'll ask why the heck didn't you get something smaller. If you stick to the stuff you need, you'll be fine. VSCode is an empty lot. You can't live in it right away. You need to build the foundation and the walls (you need a python extension) yourself. You'll want to decorate it (code completion, themes, spell check) to get the same functionality that the mansion has. Maybe it'll break and you need to fix it yourself.
