My daughter just left for college and received this tv as a gift, purchased at Walmart if that helps. The dorm will not allow them to connect wirelessly to the internet, all devices must be hardwired. So I sent her one of those USB to ethernet jacks to connect that way to no avail, I've talked her through all the troubleshooting I could think of. The tv doesn't even register the internet connection just an usb with no files. I've searched YouTube of course and Googled this issue also without results to my specific problem. So here I am asking for your help. Do I need a certain type of usb ethernet jack/dongle or what steps am I missing please help me.
TLDR: my vizio smart tv is Wi-Fi only but must be hardwired per housing regulations

This model D24f4-J01 does not support an ethernet connection, but the VIZIO model V435M-K04 will support an ethernet connection along with a 4K UHD resolution along with HDR capabilities.

I’m not sure. You could look that up in the User Manual, which is downloadable from Vizio.com’s Support page. The Manual for this model is the one for the “D-Series” Smart TVs.
