Bought this Vizio TV last Christmas for a family member just to find out that it didn't leave the box. I took it back and unboxed it fairly quickly.

Here's where the problems lie, after booting it up and going through the setup process my TV said that it would reboot shortly. OK. I went to eat for 20 minutes before coming back to a blank screen (Turned on of course).

I looked up a few troubleshooting guides but nothing helped (not even holding the Volume - and Input buttons for 10 seconds, though it did pill up a visible prompt). I'm quite annoyed by this and this Vizio will most likely be my last as even my Sylvania TV from 8~10 years ago still works just fine.

Can anybody give me any tips to fix this flimsy thing, I have the D40f-G9 model?

I know it's an older model, but it was free and I would like to keep it out of the landfill.

Power on with physical switch or remote lights power LED, which fades seconds later. No image on screen.

Replaced main board with supposedly tested good pull, no change. Interior is clean, no dust even.

I am wondering if it's failing some handshake with the LED driver. If someone's update bricked it, is there anyway to hard reset physically? Are the pinouts on the unused DIAG connector of any use with a meter, or are there any contact points to measure across on the board?

It's just an annoying puzzle now!

D40f-G9 won't update from v v: 4.25.11 to 4.61.35-1. Can't use SmartCast after failed update.

So, I got a Vizio D40f-G9 for my birthday from my mother in law. I have my PC hooked up to it via HDMI (I have a high quality monster HDMI cable). On some images/text I have a strange visual artifact next it. I have tried tinkering with the settings on my TV AND my PC to no avail. I have tried numerous HDMI cables and both HDMI ports and still the issue persists. I am going out of my mind trying to fix this. The issue doesn't seem to happen when I play games though, only on the desktop. Any help would be much appreciated. I will post an picture of my issue (look to the left of the text that says 5.2).

Thought I'd post here because I'm having a little bit of a head scratcher trying to update the firmware on my SmartTV, a D40f-g9 as posted in the title. Didn't do much updating on my own because I didn't think to keep my tv connected to WiFi all that often so now I find myself in a conundrum:

I tried to do the firmware update tv wont finish the update it keeps trying to get to. Usually what happens during any update attempt, the progress bar will finish, the tv will restart, but nothing will happen afterwards, and the update version remains the same. Things I've tried:

1. Both WiFi and Ethernet connection types

2. Attempting a soft reset before updating

3. Attempting a Factory Reset before updating

4. Attempting to use a flash drive to update the firmware (did two different flash drives just to be sure it wasn't an issue with the flash drives)

Attempts to update seem to be having me go from (current) V3.22.15 to (update version on both internet and manually file type) 4.500.11.1-9.

Now in the dozen+ attempts I have tried there was once or twice, I believe with flash drive attempts, where after the 'restart' of the tv it does go back to the same update progress bar and goes another time around, but then it once again flash the progress bar one more time after the restart and then it stops and nothing seems to have changed. I also noticed when I would bring the flash drives back to my computer, Windows did the ole 'Errors have been detected on this drive' when there weren't present before, so I even made sure to scan and repair just before hand on a couple attempts to be sure, not sure if that means anything.

I'm out of ideas in regards to this attempted fixing on my part so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear em.

Title says it all - i have the Vizio d40f-g9 smart TV and it simply will not see my 5Ghz network. Despite 2 other 50 inch Vizio TVs in the same house seeing it and working perfectly.

I have DD-WRT running on my router and the 5GHZ network is the main workhorse (see image). The manual of the TV says it can handle N wireless networks.

Does this TV support 5GHZ Wifi, and if not, what Vizio TVs between 40 anjd 50 inches 100% do?

Does anyone know what Smartcast version the D-Series should be running?

Currently mine says: Firmware says: 4.40.21 Cast version: 1.34.149937

I have seen talk of the Smartcast 3.5 update and performance improvements (which this TV definitely needs), but no idea if this TV will get it.

I'm connected to my wifi and have used both the mobile app and TV remote to check for updates.

I need Firmware updates for a Vizio D40f-G9.

Currently on 4.25.11. I would like the firmware updates from 4.25.11 to 4.6 in steps.

I just moved into a new apartment complex and set up my WiFi and cable with spectrum. The WiFi works just fine with my phone and laptop, but my TV won’t even recognize the network as a possible access point to join. I see similar looking names (from i assume neighboring units), but not mine. The TV is brand new and I just set it up as well.

I’ve done factory reset on the TV and done all recent updates. I’ve reset the router multiple times. I’ve spoken with both Spectrum and Vizio customer service and neither could figure it out.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. It’s been like this for a week and I’m frustrated that I can’t solve this problem. Thank you!

Hello. I can’t find anything online about this and the 1 post I found on here no one answered so hopefully someone can help me. I have the d40f-g9 version of a Vizio tv and I see pics with the airplay logo on the top right next to the cast logo. And sometimes the airplay logo even flashes for a second then disappears. When I try to screen mirror I see my tvs name on my iPhone but it asks for the airplay password and nothing shows up on the tv. Am I doing something wrong? Or does this version just not have screen mirroring for airplay?

I check for updates. Current version is 4.25.05 Update version is 4.70.27-3. It downloads the update, restarts the TV but no update is ever applied. Ive tried 3 times now and it doesnt seem to install. On the information screen the current version is still 4.25.05.

Since smartcast and watchfree+ also arent working which is what made me try updating the firmware in the first place.

EDIT: Vizio support was no help. Since their software update ruined my TV I asked them to replace it, they refused. The Vizio is now in the landfill and I went with another brand.

Can someone help me with getting the intermediate firmware to update a Vizio D40f-G9 from V3.22.15 to the current firmware version.

Hello all. I have a vizio d40f-g9 TV and a Vizio m215a-j6 sound bar. I had a little trouble getting them to work. Now they work fine together, via the hdmi arc. My only issue I have now is every now and then after I turn the TV on it will display at the top "a vizio soundbar has been detected" usually I have to press volume up or down to make it disappear. Sometimes the text disappears and the black bar will stay. Has anyone had this issue or a fix? I did update the soundbar to the newest version and checked the TV the other day for a update. Any help will be much appreciated.
