r/VIZIO_Official on Reddit: Vizio D Series - Horrible sound quality
December 26, 2019 -

Hi! My parents purchased a Vizio D-Series to replace their old LG TV and I helped them set it up tonight. We all noticed that the sound quality, particularly with voices, was really bad. Voices sound very muffled. Here's what we've tried:

-Initially noticed this when watching satellite TV, so we switched to Netflix (tried a couple different shows) and then a YouTube cast (again, a couple different videos). All sounded very poor quality.

-Went to Menu --> Audio and toggled every possible setting there

-Turned the old TV back on to compare and make sure we weren't just being unreasonable, and the old TV did sound much better. The old TV is nothing fancy, by the way.

I am not sure what else to try. Nothing is plugged into the audio input sockets. We are just using the regular TV speakers, no external speaker of any kind.

Any help would be most appreciated!

r/VIZIO_Official on Reddit: Tonight I get no sound :(
January 27, 2022 -

Get home after and evening out and put on the Vizio TV and no sound. I press the Volume Up/Down and see the Vizio Soundbar recognizes the buttons as the lights go up and down. But no sound.

I switch the Inputs to a different HDMI. No sound. I try various inputs. No sound. I restart the Vizio TV. No Sound. I power off and on the Vizio Soundbar. No sound. I try the Inputs in the sound bar from HDMI -1 to HDMI Arc. No sound.

I have my son unplug and replug the power to the Vizio Soundbar as this is generally the last resort that kicks things in gear. No sound. All the whole I can turn the sound up and down and see the lights show a response but…No Sound.

I finally have the Vizio Soundbar recognize the Apple TV has been on the whole time I have tried HDMI-1 and instead the Vizio TV thinks I’d prefer SmartCast or FreeTv (or something that sound stupid). This time it recognizes the Apple TV and I see that screen so I think great when I switch back to Cable I will have sound. I saw the Vizio Soundbar blink when it realized the Apple TV was there, surely it will understand when I switch HDMIs and I will have sound with Cable. No sound. I switch back to the Apple TV. No sound.

This has gone on about 20-25 minutes. Less than 2 years old the Vizio TV and Vizio Soundbar and neither one works 25-50% of the time. This is a giant waste. Tonight I have Silence.

This TV and Soundbar should be great Vizio is a name I know not some knock off store generic brand. I spent a decent amount of money on this and I get nothing. No sound. Sometimes No Picture. Sometimes it all works and then just cuts out randomly and restarts. Occasionally it all works nicely. I wish the Features of the Vizio TV and Soundbar would have said you’re giving us money to not have a working products — Enjoy No Sound.

Vizio M658-G1 4K HDR Dolby Vision TV

Vizio SB36512-F6 Soundbar with Dolby

the above products are fully updated (which seems to be how the products slowly perform the jobs they should)

I’ve reached out to Vizio support (during the height of the Pandemic I was given zero support and told to check online). But now I am told “yeah this doesn’t sound good it may not work…do you have an extended warranty? Otherwise we can’t help you.” It seems so odd to think less than 2 years is all they think their products are good for. Why does the consumer need to buy extended warranties just so the garbage we buy will work as it should in a timeframe one would expect.

Tonight: No Sound. Silence. Maybe this is the sound of silence.

r/VIZIO_Official on Reddit: Audio from internal speakers suddenly distorted
January 19, 2023 -

So I have the Vizio 4k UHD V655-J09 for christmas and it's been working fine. But suddenly, literally halfway through an episode of a show we were watching tonight, the audio started distorting a bit. It wasn't noticeable at first, but now it's really bad. It happens randomly, mostly around louder "S" sounds (it sounds like I'm listening to a podcast from the early 2000s recorded on an iPhone). I've tried fiddling with the audio settings with no luck. It's not an HDMI cable problem because it was replicated with the Netflix app on the TV itself. It's not a problem with the app or with the internet because it doesn't happen over headphones.

I can't really justify buying a soundbar at the moment, so id appreciate if anyone has any ideas or any way to help. Or if there's a decent external speaker for under a hundred bucks. If it were just me here, I'd throw on my headphones and call it a day, but can't really do that when I'm trying to watch something with my fiancée.

Michale Norton, first off start with what Vizio suggest on here: · Built-In Speakers · If you cannot hear any sound from the speakers built into your VIZIO TV, check the following: · The volume level is set above zero. · The TV is not muted. · Under Audio or Audio Settings on the on-screen menu, TV Speakers is set to On. · All of the cables physically connected to the TV and the input devices are secure. · Switch to a different input device and verify there is sound from the TV speakers (for example, a DVD player or a gaming console). Turn the other device on and then use the INPUT button on the remote to switch to that device. Then attempt to play a DVD or game to determine if the TV speakers produce sound. If you do not have another device, and your TV is a VIA Smart TV you can test with any video application. · If you have a Cable or Satellite box, confirm that the audio is turned up and not muted within that box. · External Speakers, Sound Bar, Surround Sound System, or Other External Audio System · If you have an external audio system connected to your VIZIO TV and you do not hear any sound, check the following: · The volume control of the external audio system is set above zero. · The external audio system is not muted. · All of the cables physically connected to the TV and the audio device are secure. · Switch to a different input device and see if there is sound (for example, a DVD player or a gaming console). Turn on the other device and then use the INPUT button on the remote to change to that device. (Cable, Cable Box, DVD player, etc). Then attempt to play a DVD or game to determine if the speakers produce sound. If you do not have another device, and your TV is a VIA Smart TV you can test with any video application. · Disconnect the external audio device from TV and listen for audio from the TV’s built-in speakers. Under Audio or Audio Settings on the on-screen menu, set TV Speakers to On. · Update (05/10/2016) · Since that does not change anything, follow that attached flow sheet. I've found that the audio IC in most TV is of inferior quality and has a tendency to fail. · It is possible that due to a failed IR board your Television just does not receive signal for the volume up.

I was having the same issue with the sound on my Vizio TV and nothing I tried worked, until I accidentally unplugged my Cable box. When I plugged it back in the sound came back and it has been fine ever since. Still not sure what the issue was but I'm just glad that it is fixed. Hopefully this will work for you!

June 30, 2025 - If so, it may have been an issue with the HDMI sound not working on the TV. Swap out the media device for another one, or change the TV's speaker output to the internal speakers to see if it fixes the sound. If the problem involves one of your connected devices, check its audio settings.

r/VIZIO_Official on Reddit: Audio quality horrible after update
October 4, 2022 -

I've seen several people posting about this on this sub, but no solutions or explanations yet. As of an update (I think for me it was October 5), the sound quality has become horrible. It is tinny, muted, and muffled.

I have a fairly new D Series 32" TV.

Anyone have any potential fixes? I've tried resetting the TV, reconnecting all devices, and playing with the audio settings. I'm afraid investing in a sound bar won't fix the issue since I'm not sure it's a hardware issue.
