I've got a gift card from maybe 10 years ago. I realize I should have used it sooner. It was lost, and is now found (couch ate it). We went to use it about a month ago, and the employee gave us a strange look. I guess the design is old. She tried to swipe it multiple times, but it wouldn't read. She also tried scanning it, but the barcode on it is only the UPC (4 60001 40010 8). I asked if she could type in the number (16 digits on the back), but she said no - we'd have to call support. We called the number on the back, and were able to check the balance, confirmed it still had a balance.. but when connected to an agent, we were told they couldn't replace a card without proof of purchase. Needless to say, I don't have that anymore.
I tried to use it online, but the website asks for a CVV, which this card doesn't have. Apparently that's a new thing.
I went to another Walgreens hoping a different employee could do something, but they also said they can not type in gift card numbers.
Am I screwed? Unfortunately, this card has a fair bit of money on it. I'd really like to use it up. Any ideas? Willing to get creative..
Thanks
I purchased two giftcards from Walgreens on Christmas Eve (mistake #1) for last minute gifts. One was an Amazon card and the other from Lowe's. I gifted my brother the Amazon card with the little activation slip. On Christmas Day when he attempted to load it on his Amazon account, he was told the card was invalid. He contacted Walgreens and they said they couldn't help him. I contacted the store manager and he gave me the email address for epc giftcard. I have sent them pics of the cards, receipts, and activation slips. Walgreens employees, is this a fairly common situation? Do I have any hope to get my money back. This was a pretty crappy Christmas present for my brother.
Edited to add correspondence I received on 3/28/25:
Thank you for your patience in this matter. After review, we found that there was an issue activating the gift card at POS. It was found that you are due a refund in the amount of $100.00 from the purchase location. I will inform the store manager of our findings, and you should receive a call within two business days from the Store Manager. I've included your case number below for your reference, should you have any questions.
Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope you'll give us another chance to serve you.
Last update: On 4/6/25 I finally got my money! I had to go back to the POS store and ask for the manager, who counted out 100 bucks from the register. I am so happy this is over!
I rarely post on here anymore but I have a question for seasoned managers/CSAs.
I have a Walgreens gift card which’s magnet strip got damaged/wiped.
Is there a way to manually key in the gift card? Or a way to transfer the balance from one card to another?
There’s no way to use them online or curbside (I tried). I called the help line on the card and they told me to go in store. No one at my store knows how to fix this!!!
Tldr: Is there a way to transfer funds/use funds on a damaged Walgreens gift card?
