I don't think most of these places do ink refills anymore. I do recommend a kit and it's less waste and money than buying cartridges. I bought an ink refill kit from Amazon for <$20 and have been using it for almost 7 years now and I still have a ton left even with heavy printing for school! It's saved me at least $1000. I only had to buy ink once when my printer wouldn't let me use "bootleg" ink. If you go down this route I'd recommend saving an extra set of empty cartridges so you can swap between them and "trick" your printer into thinking you're using their offical cartridges. We did them back in the 00’s. We just did the standard magenta, cyan and yellow 3 color carts and black. They would often crack at the seams on the machine and the refills didn’t last very long even when they worked. It was this all in one unit I think it was called “ink-o-dem” Following up to say everyone was super relieved when they pulled those things out of the stores. They were a nightmare and the refills failed >50% of the time. And whoever was operating it would end up with hands covered in ink.

I used to get it refilled at Costco, but they stopped doing it. When I search online I found Walgreens and Office Max, but when I called both those places they said they don't do it any more. Actually, Office Max said they don't do it any more... Walgreens acted like I was asking if they shaved kittens.
So, where do I go? Do I need to get a kit and do it myself? That seems like more waste than just buying a new cartridge.
If there's another option that I don't know about, feel free to enlighten me. Except not printing stuff. I can't go all electronic with my stuff.
Update: I went ahead and ordered a kit from Amazon. I should get about 20 refills out of it, so it's a lot more eco friendly than tossing out cartridges. Not completely Zero Waste, but as close as I can get.

If there's no other option available you might want to sell or donate your old printer and getting a dedicated refillable tank printer(for pictures) or a laser printer(for documents). From my research it seems like epson makes some of the best tank printers and brother makes some of the best laser printers. Overall less waste in the lifetime of the printer and much cheaper in the long run. Obviously this is only if you can't find a solution! Just don't give in and buy into the scam that is proprietary single use cartridges!
